Yeah, that looks something like a click or pop from a vinyl record. I've never known CDs to make that sound (even quite scratched ones). Usually they work fine for me until the scratch is bad enough for it to skip.

§pectre: Reaper and Soundforged are commercial but have free trials although soundforge is hidden behind a stupid recaptcha and the full product costs a silly amount.
Oh I used Soundforge ages ago and it was very good.
But then it was acquired by Magix and I'm not sure how it is nowadays (probably DRMed and bloated).
And yeah, 300€ is way too much for my current needs. And the 50€ version is too limited instead.

Actually it is a voice over click from this video.

Just out of curiosity... Audio Studio 50€ seems far from 'limited' to me (especially compared to the free programs), so what are your current needs?

I checked the differences here:
https://www.magix.com/us/music-editing/sound-forge/sound-forge-pro/version-comparison/

and I noticed it doesn't have features like batch automation, spectrum analysis, clipping identification, and some simple plugins like Peak Meter, Wave Hammer, etc

These days you can find tons of very good freeware plugins... though I find this entry suspect: "Virtual effect editing"

Well the latest news doesn't exactly get better:-

"The updated privacy policy page (which was uploaded 2 days ago) for Audacity includes a wide range of data collection mechanisms. It states for example that it can hand any user data to state regulators where it is located. Additionally, they state that they might share the data with anyone they classify as a "third-party", "advisors" or "potential buyers"..."

"Moreover, the same page contains a shallow attempt to prevent kids under age of 13 from using the application, which is a violation of the GPL license (The license under which Audacity is released) because GPL prevents any restrictions on the usage of software."

Yes. The original concept of retail software. A tested, and finished item. After all, if a member of the public got hold of a version with bugs in it, it would harm your reputation. Beta versions were kept in-house until they pass quality control. But that's no longer profitable enough.

Eventually, everything will be a service, to which you subscribe, and pay for continuously. (I don't just mean money.)
Oh well, at least it will be easy to get hold of the last version without spyware, and since it's open source people will fork it into a non-spyware version.

Thanks for the warning. Damn shame to see it ruined like that, it was a good piece of software.

Also shows the great benefits with open source, though. If evil people take over your company and ruin your product, somebody else will restore it.

I got the trial a while back and some parts worked but others were drmed.

It has worked for audacity for the moment looking at Pouyou-pouyous link.

With open source there's no guarantee that someone will fork it, it will continue to be as good as what went before it or it won't come under attack.

It turns out I was right with my last comment. I was thinking of the gentoo attack from last year or the one before that when i made it.

Disclaimer: I really thought long about this, and I haven't slept in two days due to ongoing harassments of 4chan.

As the first people were literally arriving at my place of living, where they knocked on my doors and windows to scare us, I am hereby officially stepping down as a maintainer of this project.

4chan thinks I cannot code C, so they win.
4chan thinks I'm unfit to lead the project, so they win.
4chan successfully bullied me out in order to have their fucked up sneedacity fork. A fork that was finally created with blood, quite literally.

I give up. I don't care. The safety of my family is worth more than an open source project. They found out my address via a YouTube video where someone was posting my nickname combined with my real legal name (which meanwhile got taken down due to my asking).

The incident happened shortly 23:00 CEST, today; and the police took over this case.
