Hey, we don't have support chat. Please start a support ticket via https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us. Thanks!
New Rule update:

• Political discussions not related to a video game are not permitted. Threads created exclusively to talk about politics will be locked. Users who ignore this rule repeatedly will be met with moderation.

After various threads proving how toxic and unproductive the topic of politics is, the discussion of politics, not directly linked to a video game, will now be locked.

Users have used threads to engage in political attacks and rants to the point where it has become an issue. There has been no benefit to these threads, just an excuse for users to insult each other and preach their politics on both sides. Each of these threads has required heavy amounts of attention from the Mod team, with each thread nearly always resulting in a lock.

If a game is political by nature, then respectful political discussion on the game will be permitted. If users cannot be civil and respectful while discussing the topic, they will be met with moderation.

initialpresence: And just look at the comment that got the thread linked below locked. If you want to know who your oppressor is just find out who you can't critisize. Enough said.

The fact you completely ignored the reason why the thread was locked speaks volumes.

New rule, the thread was locked due to it. Nothing more, nothing less.

initialpresence: At this stage you're not even making sense anymore. You are clearly unfit for the work you have been assigned to do. You are just another stooge pushing the left's politics.
I'd hate to point out I've equally moderated those on either side of the political chart. That includes locking threads, banning users and editing their comments.

richlind33: Ah yes, "the reason".

How incredibly convenient and arbitrary. And shamelessly dictatorial. And ironic, because your conduct is thoroughly political.

Well, thank you for sharing the nature of your politics with us, Linko, because it explains perfectly well why you detest political discussion.
You literally have no idea who I am, where I come from or what I believe in. My role here is to moderator the forums. The topic of politics was repeatedly going toxic and creating a wider negative impact. I see a problem I can fix, I carry out the required moves to fix it. Hence the new rule change.

I would remind you that your constant talking down to me resulted in you having some cool off time. It was not a one time offer.
avatar
dtgreene: One problem: This new rule isn't exactly visible. It's not in the first post of a sticky topic, and it is not in any sort of announcement post, therefore people are going to miss the new rule, and some will therefore likely be punished for a rule they didn't know existed.
avatar
Lemon_Curry: Indeed, it ought to be in GOG's interest to make all the forum rules easily known and shared.

Sachys: Looks like too little too late from my perspective. GOG already has a reputation as a right wing "free-zone" of activity (that is theyre allowed / welcomed here - thanks Gamersgate! -_____-). There are too many numpties out there fed on a diet of the weird corners of youtube, infowars and Breitbart with that in their heads for it to end unless theyre permabanned from posting here.
Consider the fact this place has been used to recruit / turn people to ultra right wing thinking, belief and groups over the last few years, and its a severe issue - one with a knock on effect thats not only relevant to GOGs PR and marketability.

Hell, who ever runs the twitter account seems to just copy paste stuff from 4chan half the time.

GOG should have taken a stand years ago. GOG did not. No offense to the new blue, but you're one sword in a battle thats been raging for a very long time.

Good luck!

*unlitarally flings poo!

I've never used 4Chan in my life. Sorry to disappoint your theory.

As for talking about years ago, I wasn't here years ago. But I am now. As for the 'recruitment' i've seen nothing of the sort so far. I would remind users this rule change affects political threads from either side. Please do not overlook this, or assume wrongly of staff. Neither is welcome or productive.

tinyE: I think you misunderstood him Linko. He said this place "has been used". He was referring to the way it was before you got here when there was virtually none of the moderation that you are providing.

His general point is that, IHO, it may be too late, and as he mentioned, you're just one sword.
There are further mods on the way, I was always directly replying to their false connection of 4chan. I understand humour isn't universally shared but the comment was rather bizarre. The change has been made, I'd prefer to focus on the future than simply dwelling on the past.

Sachys: Well, in that case, please rethink a bunch of the "memes" and other things the twitter account posts as a lot of it seems to go against what you've been doing on here of recent. A simple request.

and again, good luck!

dtgreene: There are still issues with visibility:
* A new user on the forums won't necessarily think to check something that is not a forum link.
* An established user will typically ignore stickies, especially those that have been around for a while, and will not see the new rule as a result.
* Even for established users who happen to check the link, the new rule doesn't stick out in any way, so it's not obvious that something has changed with respect to the rules.
avatar
Sachys: Agreed entirely. I only saw this whole thing because somebody with my non gog contacts linked me to it.
Request noted, but will not be acted upon i'm afraid. I can't match everyone's ideas of funny/engaging/entertaining, nor do I expect other people's to match my own.

As for viability, it's stated on code of conduct page and the sticky thread. There is no other way to keep this visible beyond posting it in a fresh thread on a regular basis, which is not realistic.

Telika: There MAY be a difference between "hey, that character hasn't the same skin colour in that book" and "all the medias are controlled by the jewish raaaaace", though. Thematically. Somehow. At some level. Somewhere. Maybe. Who knows.
avatar
richlind33: If you want to extrapolate, that's fine, but do remember that it's *your* interpretation, and in this case I think it's disengenuous.

If you're going to claim that racism is predjudice + power, and then tell me that it's racist to mention who actually has most of the power, you have shown that you don't have a great deal of interest in justice per se. I'm perfectly happy to let the chips fall where they may, and work from there towards a better future for all, but I'm not seeing that from you.

Sacred cows have no place in rational discussion, so what's more important, rational discussion, or defending what is logically indefensible?
You began to randomly talk about Jewish influence in the media. Not at all on topic. You ignored TWO warnings in the thread.

The thread was locked due to it going off topic. Those who took the thread off topic were handed suspensions for ignoring the warnings. Repeat offenders were given longer suspensions.

If those users continue to ignore the rules and warning, their future bans will increase.

avatar
richlind33: This will be my second attempt to address your false accusations re random references to Jewish influence. You failed to respond to my first attempt via PM so this time I'll do it here.

.

I responded to someone who was making inaccurate racial generalizations re whites, correctly pointing out that whites are not the dominant power in media. This was then taken by Starmaker to be an attack on Jews, which I also responded to. There was *no* randomness at all with anything I posted re whites or Jews.

I'm concerned about what appears to be racial bias against whites on the part of GOG. I note that you said nothing about the Asian poster's racial generalizations, nor did I see you say anything at all to the poster who decided it was perfectly OK to bring up "white privilege" in a thread about a shooting tragedy. I'm very concerned about this, because it sends the message that racial generalizations are perfectly OK as long as they're directed at whites. They're only "bad" when they're directed at groups that have been granted ideological victim status.

It's similar to an incident that occurred at Evergreen State College that happened about a year ago, where a liberal Jewish professor was attacked because he chose not to participate in a "protest" that attempted to exclude whites from the college campus for a day, because he didn't think racial shaming was morally acceptable, and would have negative consequences for the college. Attendance has since dropped from over 900 to under 300, so apparently he was right.

I really hope that this can be resolved amicably, Linko, because I don't think either of us are well-served by dragging this out indefinitely.

.

BTW, Telika and Starmaker, do you think it's OK to throw Bret Weinstein under the bus for failing to show deference to the ideological orthodoxy of the extreme left? And what if it turned out that I am also Jewish, would that make any difference?
You failed to stick to the rules. You were banned as a result. Oddly enough, the other users who were also banned for similar things took it gracefully and have since understood they breached the rules. I'd hope you follow in their path.

Simply put, if you fail to stay within the rules, you will be banned again. I have been nothing but amicable, and yet you are now claiming I'm 'biased towards white people'.

I suggest you take your banning as a message to stay within the rules. Failure to do so will result in further bans. The rules apply to everyone, you included.

richlind33: You have failed to substantiate your accusations re "random" racial references. Please do so or retract them. If you do not, I will take the matter up with your superiors.
You are more than welcome to.

Stick within the rules and you won't be met with moderation. It's that simple.
