vsr: Have you tried contacting Fables on the issue?
Because ranting on forum is one thing, but to try to fix it with officials is another...
Also, contact Support.

If only you and Kleetus are affected by this, nobody will contact GOG to fix it. Report it official-way and wait for fix.
Forum rants won't help.

Tauto: If you bothered to read previous posts you would see that Kleetus and I HAVE asked several times and it has been left unanswered.Reporting it officially, the answer is ''we will look into it''and they hope that satisfies and you disappear forever.
The problem here is that the two of you are amongst the people that have been and still are reported most frequently - so perhaps that's the reason why people systematically downrep your posts and threads. That said though, for a long time it was the only thing that I think gave people the feeling that they can, in a way, self-moderate the forum themselves. I'm hoping it'll significantly decrease now that offenders can just be banned and the community don't feel like they have to take things into their own hands. That said, though, I'm looking into the downrep reports so I'll soon have an idea of who the culprits are.

vsr: You have asked about it on a Forum. It is considered as some non-binding talks and can be ignored if problem is non-trivial.
Report problem official-way through Support. Insist on fixing it. Ask mods about status of fixing this problem.

If you don't care - they don't care even more.
Actually, I'd rather anything non-technical was reported to me, rather than to Support.

Tauto: Good, name them all including me as I have a hair trigger finger and it aims at those red/orange buttons. As for reporting me,I have done nothing wrong in the last couple of weeks except press that red button.Goodnight.
Keep doing what you're doing, then.

vsr: That's what i'm talking about.
Thread/posts removal through "report as spam" function is technical problem and should be reported through Support.

They both said in earlier posts they don't care much about rep and that thread/posts removal is theirs real problem.
Forum user Alaric.us was hit by this exploit earlier too.
It's not actually - there's nothing they can do about it. I tried myself and there's nothing at this stage that I can do about it either. All they can do is bump it with website, but I do that pretty much on a regular basis, so there's genuinely no need whatsoever to swamp them with it. It's not a bug or an error, it's a technicality flaw that needs to be addressed by website.

I'd also prefer to be the one who has a say in what's reported what way. Thanks!

vsr: How GOG team will fix it, if no one will report it?
Does this problem even exists in GOG's internal bugtracker?
Did you miss the part where I said that I'm bumping it pretty much every day?

Am I talking in riddles? I feel like everything I say needs to be re-phrased by someone else so other people get what it means....

OK.
No. I mean a task in websites operations pipeline that I created requesting it. Does that clarify it at all?

That is EXACTLY how I feel, yes. Thanks for re-iterating my thoughts so I actually know what I'm thinking...hang on...I don't know anymore.

Intentional :)

Breja: Now that's an artifact I'd love to use in one of my tabletop RPG campaigns! Sadly there's no way to translate the pun. It would be great to send the players on some worldwide search for it just for them to realise at the end that the name of the artifact was missepelled and all they end up with is a plate of radiant bacon :D
Sounds awesome, and also kinda evil :)

Bookwyrm627: It just occurred to me that perhaps the "unreleased game content" clause is a nod toward things like the Hot Coffee mod. The placement of that line makes more sense when viewed in that context.

tinyE: I'm also wondering about "Hey, this game is on sale over at Steam, here is the link!"
I'm going to pretend that I didn't see this.... :)

skeletonbow: I'd say "Well, get Goat Simulator on GOG then!" :) ... but TinyE and I just bought it last week on Steam having waited 2 years for a GOG release. We could wait no more to let our Goat out! :P

It would be nice if the game had Galaxy multi-goater mode though.
LOL.

fables22: Hey everyone,

As already hinted on the forum, we've updated our forum rules - see the updated version here: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001814049-Forum-Code-of-Conduct.

Please take the time to read the rules and familiarize yourselves with them before posting on the forum. For the majority of you, I believe nothing will change in terms of what and how you post

ZFR: Hello, Fables.

Given the following rule:

Using a third party’s intellectual property (full or partial scans of articles, books, full transcriptions of articles, etc.) unless you have permission to do so.
avatar
ZFR: Could you please clarify whether the Missing Manuals thread and related GOGMix by Treasure are OK?

Ok for now, but will double check this with the lawyers.

Breja: I don't get this returning "thick skin" argument, as if surviving in a hostile environment of trolls, threats and vitriol is some right of passage and test of true manhood, and if you don't enjoy or easily ignore being called a "fuckface" or people advocating murder and ethnic cleansing you have less of a right to be here. Do you really want to rather get rid of the nice, calm people who don't have "thick skin" rather than the thick skinned and thick skulled trolls who bully them? Do you really think a hatefull bully spreading the message of "kill the faggot" has greater right to be here than a gay person who isn't confident and thick skinned enough to put up with it? Because one way or the other you arem aking that choice, even if you think you're not.

And I really do not for the life of me understand why people see ignoring such things as some sign of strenght or maturity. There is nothing good about about ignoring rampant hate, discrimination, propaganda and calls to violence. Just because you ignore them and move on to another thread doesn't mean they don't have any consequence. Such acquiescence is in itself terribly harmfull. It allows such extrimists to spread their hate further and further. It does have real world impact. Every bit of it eventually adds up. And this has become a serious problem on this forum. The most serious one in fact. It's not like the moderation happened to this forum as it was four years ago, like it suddenly descended upon a peacefull realm of civil discussion to enforce the oh so very dreaded political correctness.

I am absolutely aware of the fact, that political correctness can also be, and often is nowadays taken to an extreme and can be a huge problem. But allowing the fear of that to make us the hostages of the other, very real and already present extreme is in my opinion simply unnecceptable, and should be so for any decent person.
avatar
skeletonbow: Very well put, +1.

Having the freedom to express ourselves rather openly is nice to have. It is however a privilege and not a right, which many people online get confused about. It only takes a very small number of extremely toxic people to turn an otherwise civil community into a toxic environment of hate and endless verbal violence. In the end such people end up taking over online communities by force simply by continuing to sprout toxicity as long as they're permitted to do so, and in doing so they scare away anyone who merely wants to engage in civil discourse or are relatively neutral. Most normal people when bullied by someone toxic/hateful/etc. will back down and walk away or otherwise avoid conflict, and that's what happens. Then all that is left is a toxic shell of any community completely devoid of the remotest glimpse of civility.

We don't need laws or rules in society to force civil people to be civil, they do so of their own free will. But we do need law and order of some sort in society because people who are toxic and have no respect for others generally are unwilling to change their behaviour for the greater good of the whole. That's why we have police departments in real life, and why we have the equivalent of forum moderators in a place like this. It's because it only takes a small number of people with no self control and no respect for others to destroy something that exists for everyone - not just them.
+1 a 100%.

skeletonbow: tinyE just got a temp ban for breaking this rule hence it is obviously being enforced.
avatar
catpower1980: I don't remember if I already pointed that out but it would be nice if the webdev team could implement a "banned" (or "temporarly banned") status on the forum public profile of the banned user (the "profile" as it's displayed in forum discussions) so at least we know that this user can't temporarly (or forever) publicly respond.
Definitely not going to happen.
avatar
fables22: Definitely not going to happen.
avatar
Telika: There are drawbacks to this discretion. Firstly, it gives people the impression that "nothing happens", that no moderation is taking place. You see some abuse somewhere, you assume that it's deemed okay and that the author is simply taking a breathe before the next abuse. And so, you react to it as to an ungoing, unresolved matter (in a way, "waiting for the second shoe"). Secondly, there is no exemplarity. With general rules, boundaries are tested and defined by practice. And this invisibility means that the testing is being re-made individually every time : nobody knows where exactly are the walls they'd bump on.

This is why, on a different scale, legal judgements are public. They give closure, and they exemplify boundaries. And this is why on many forums, not only bans are explicit (preventing people to pointlessly address absentees) but are given a reason, be it technical ("user banned for post #3586", "user banned by rule C§41 ter") or more sarcastic (the personalized penny arcade notifications are hilarious, echoing the offense and/or the user signature, while still giving a precise idea of what is not acceptable).

It's a domain where transparency (clarification of what is going on where why how) can snowball for the better. Partly because the forum is bigger than the four or five users that can be "schooled" separately, and, thus, would benefit from indirect moderation of practical exemplarity.

You would avoid forumgoers (old and new) re-discovering one by one what these rules intend to mean, and you would prevent wrong assumptions on "what" is moderated or not, "who" is moderated or not, etc.
I wasn't going to and won't get into the reasons, I'm just saying that at this point in time, this is a 100% not going to happen. That's not to say that it might in the future, or if the need for it becomes clearer or more obvious.
avatar
tinyE: I was told I could say pretty much everything but the F word, but there is of course context that applies.
avatar
WBGhiro: Nah. Watch this.

Fuck fucking fuckers!

See? is ok.

Just don't do it in thread titles or they'll have to bring judas and his euphenisms back.
Hey!
avatar
jamyskis: Well, I see Fable's new rules haven't made a blind bit of fucking difference. Bans doled out elsewhere for the most trivial and technical of violations but very little action done in keeping with the spirit behind the new rules. Downrepping abuse and personal attacks abound here and in various other threads.

Even the most innocuous threads are being hijacked for political purposes - this forum has gone so far to hell that a rational discussion is impossible. Far-right trolls downvoting everything that is remotely critical of them pretty much shows what this place has become. I'm sick of this forum being flooded with extremist politics and conspiracy theories, and yet being the stupid twat I am, I keep coming back.
I can't get in touch with the author of the post, so the post above has been edited so it no longer breaks the Code of Conduct. I appreciate the feedback (although I've discussed what the issue is with downrepping many times before), but not the offensive attitude.
