Crosmando: But were their any truly "great" games on Atari consoles or was it all just primitive stuff like Tetris or Pong?
That depends on where you put the line on what is and what isn't primitive stuff. Atari games had big limitations, but this also called for lots of creativity. There are several fun games, some are considered classics and were influential, so yes, it has great games, but you can't expect anything too complex.

Many arcade games were also ported to this system, some were better than others (Pac-Man is an infamous example of a port gone terribly wrong), so if you like Arcade games from the 70's and early 80's you would most likely enjoy Atari games.

You mean the...what is this, the 6th corpse of Atari in name only?

(Protip: Atari died with the Jaguar.)

pimpmonkey2382.313: Asteroids, centipede, milipede, donkey kong, donkey kong jr, I could go on and on. This COULD be an awesome system if they put stuff from the 5200 and 7800, their 8 bit computers along with arcade and 2600.
If they made this system to have every single atari game from start to finish that would be pretty much an instant buy or killer little thing they can have here.

Agreed, and even some third parties, while something like space invaders ports would be more likely, I'd LOVE for them to get donkey kong and DK jr. though that will probably be impossible.

Does nintendo own rights to the old mario and donkey kong from atari consoles?

I don't know how it works exactly, but I think they do for the most part, even if they didn't create the ports themselves.

ah I see. well on a good point xbox one s dropped to 250 so that's not bad but this e3 is interesting showing some new games and stuff that is standing out. now I might get me one of those xbox systems for 4k blu ray movies cause it's damn cheap!
W00t! Can't wait for a new slew of games where you're the blue square dot, shooting yellow square dots to try to kill the purple and green square dots before the orange square dot gets you!

CARRiON-XCII: lol wat. They should help fund this by giving Devolver the Blood IP at an actual fair price. Cunts.
avatar
Grargar: But does it really belong to Atari, or actually to Warner Bros?
The source code belongs to Atari, according to both Jace Hall who claims his signature is on the paperwork, and Devolver who were in negotiations with them shortly after the success of the Shadow Warrior reboot. Devolver ultimately backed down after saying it "wasn't happening" and it was "too expensive".

They know what they have, and they're just being dicks about it.
avatar
pimpmonkey2382.313: Not exactly,e they really had no say on what was released on the consoles back then as they didn't have a restrictive agreement in place like Nintendo.
avatar
ShadowAngel.207: They actually wanted to do that when they tried to forbid Activision making games for the 2600. They lost in court. Thankfully. Imagine the Atari 2600 without the Activision games.
No Decathlon then....
Atari doesn't have the financial might nor the name cache to build a modern console. The field is crowded enough as it is right now with Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch.

if anything, this is an Atari mini to make cash the way the NES mini did, except the Atari 2600 doesn't have 80, 40 or even 25 games worth going back to play again.

That would be my guess.

all the leaks and the guy on the forums is stating it wont have built in games at all or be any type of retro console if you go to the links. but what could be is it being like a download service or something for games on it? who knows but I opted in for the email and see what news comes in later on it the year.
i wish I still had my 2600

I want a flashback 2, you can install a cartridge port on those, and play the real carts.
