As a Linux user, I'm so sorry and ashamed of the community.

I know I sometimes have complains on GOG and other companies, but I hope I never spewed such hate. If so, I apologize.

So there were never any flamings from Windows or Mac users ever when a broken or poorly performing game was released?
Don't get me wrong, the Linux community consists of a huge amount of arrogant pricks indeed, but this sounds very one-sided.

There were flamings, sure.

But Linux community is small, smaller than other groups. If it is able to generate such amount of hate, no wonder that it can lead to sentiment that it is not worth of dealing with them.

Linux users, a very small minority with big entitlement.

If that makes you feel better with yourself I won't stop you (not that I can :P), but it should be obvious that's not Linux users who are a bunch of entitled pricks, but the "gamer community" as a whole.

PS: I'm genuinely curious about the reason of your beef with Linux and/or Linux users. The slightest mention of this OS is enough to spur your contemptuous remarks. Why the hate?

seems unfair to single out the Linux community for this kind of behaviour.
I mean just look around in the internet. Sadly there is a certain percentage of the population that seemingly lack any basic respectful behaviour and express their dislike with hate, vitriol and personal abuse.
Why would you expect that these people don't exist among the Linux users ?

Imho it is a shallow reason to cancel further Linux ports because of that. If you are really that bothered by that reaction, you' d have to stop publishing stuff (and leave the internet).

Try and release Cyberpunk in the same state as the initial witcher 2 port and watch the backlash that you will get.
The hate against the Linux port will look like a gentle summer breeze in comparison.

Exactly. And the more the usage of Linux grows, the more dickheads there'll be in the user base.

As condemnable and shameful this kind of behavior is, at the end of the day what matters to devs/pubs is revenue, and what part of it they can afford to lose:

"There's a mega-shitstorm about our rushed and bug-ridden latest Windows release!"
"Shit! Man up, fix everything as quickly as possible, and let's hope this doesn't hit too hard our yearly results."

vs

"There's a mega-shitstorm about our rushed and bug-ridden latest Linux port!"
"What?!?! Bunch of ungrateful twats! Without dessert (and Witcher 3) they go!"
Holy crap I praised the W2 VP wrapper a whole bunch. Top quality stuff and no complaints at all, game ran fine, steam controller and all, plugged it thru hdmi ports with absolutely zero issues.
Ok, I only played it for like 5h or so but it was truly amazing and somehow better than the x360 version I got for free -which I almost finished, couldn't do it since time constraints uh.. appeared ;P

But what bugs me the most is that (they) ...certainly didnt blame us, because they had us work on a Mac port of Witcher 1 to replace the non-functioning Wineskin version. The same port would have ran on Linux too with very little extra work, but they were not interested in releasing it.

DAMN!! :(
Nopw that's how you burn bridges eh?

You have to take into account market shares; they are probably ready to endure a lot more abuse from peoples who represent 90% of their market share than they are ready to do so for those who represent only 1% of it. (purely made up numbers)

That being said I am not convinced that it was the case; I mean Linux community has always been very "volatile" and "passionate" so when they decided to release their games on Linux they were probably well aware in what they got themselves into.

On the other side, if this article is right and it really had a negative impact of their stock prices, then that seems a much more believable reason; being insulted online is one thing but having it have a negative financial impact on your company is another beast altogether.

Maybe he hasn't one.
I often see him writing generic passive-aggressive comments against people ¯\_(O_o)_/¯

Every community (tech related or not) has people who are disrespectful instead of engaging in constructive criticism.
But that should not be the scale to judge communities as a whole.
In general I don't understand the hate against developers if something doesn't goes 100% at a launch. A small developer can focus to test only on a handful of systems and combinations of hardware. They need time to fix every possible scenario. But today's gamers feel entitled for their games to be perfect. If you want it to be perfect, wait 1-2 years until the bugs are ironed out.
mumble mumble Microsoft only tools mumble mumble lots of work to port it to a tiny market mumble
Not being ported with Eon wrapper - is not worst what can be happened with Witcher 3. imho.
Honestly, that is just a bad cop-out. The port was terrible, and was rightly criticised. Get a better and more competent company to do it, or do it properly yourself, and it will sell like hot cakes. The problem wasn't that people were critical, but that they did a terrible job.
