So tomorrow (August the 25th) marks the 10 year anniversary of one of, if not THE best comic book video games/series Arkham Asylum! I decided I'd play the whole series from start to finish in chronological order, already up to Arkham Knight and I'm having a blast. The combat initially seemed very shallow... but as the game and series progressed layers were added to it and new opportunities for combos and awesome moves opened up. Apparently they based the combat around rhythm games like Guitar Hero. That wasn't apparent to me at the time as I've never played a game like that, but I grew to love the system.

It was a shame that Knight had such a rocky launch. The story is great (the whole series really) and I honestly loved the Batmobile. Understand why it was a turn off to some though as the series up to that point hadn't involved vehicular use. Graphics are still jaw-dropping. I remember starting the game, then realizing I was in control thinking I was still watching a CGI intro. I'm eager to see what Rocksteady does next... though I know I'm going to need a new computer to run it.
Whoa, time flies. I should finally finish Arkham Knight, but I'm one of those people who can't into driving, so I got to the first Batmobile sequence and ended up using cheats to slow down the game, but it was killing the enjoyment for me and I ended up dropping it.

I'm honestly surprised so many people disliked the Batmobile driving. Maybe it's because I also like other 3rd person action adventure games with vehicles like the GTA series. I still remember how thrilling it was the first time Batman jumped in the vehicle and tore off after thugs on the road... just plowing through environmental props like they were a wet paper bag!
The first game is a classic, the second is fantastic but lacked the focus I think. The open world style really didn't do it any favours compared to the first games hub style. I kind of got bored of the third game and haven't went back.
Stop making me realize how old I am.
I could never get it to run on my PC :(

10 years and still not on GOG. :(
Arkham series are not games GoG needs, but the games GoG deserves.

Hmmm, it's an old game and has probably been pirated a lot by now. So why isn't it here? Hmm...
I know it's a cliche to say this, but I really feel like it was released yesterday. If was to make a serious guess I'd probably say 5 years tops and still feel like I'm pushing it. Weird.

Pirated? How? The DRM is in place, it's not possible. Is it?

Anything released 2009 and forward is still kind of new. I've realized that games I've thought about playing soon have been on my to-play-list so to speak for 10 years.

To stick on topic, Batman: Arkham Asylum was better than the sum of its parts. I disliked many things about the game, but I still enjoyed it. The atmosphere was phenomenal.

I'd say it's aged extremely well in just about all regards which probably helps make it feel like it isn't THAT old.
Asylum is a good game, but to me it has 2 problems:

It's too short.
The same bosses over and over again (except Poison Ivy).

I forgot about Poison Ivy, God that boss fight was terrible.

I think pretty much everything about it was stellar except for the story. Really, the story is barely more than an excuse to have the "inmates running the asylum" scenario play out, and all of it leading to "Joker hulking out" was pretty lame. The game was so good it deserved a better story.

Then again at least it wasn't the pretentious nonsense of the Arkham Asylum comic by Grant Morrison, so maybe I shouldn't complain.
