Lucumo: Didn't watch it myself, as I don't want my eyes to melt but yeah, it has really bad CGI and the frame rate is terrible too.
Well, I've seen worse but that's just me. Apparently, they replaced some of the CGI in the Blu-Ray version so that's something.

I've seen worse too, from 1983:

Didn't know that but I doubt they made it to the point where it's "ok".

Hmm, just remembered, I read (... looked at?) a visual novel called ChuSinGura 46+1 sometime last year.

It's based on the tale of the 47 Ronin, with the protagonist being a high schooler who travelled back in time from the modern era. And all the samurai are female.
I've only played the first out of 5 chapters (I'll buy the other 4 chapters... eventually...). It mainly dealt with his struggles adapting to life in the Edo period, forming relationships with the characters, and other events which I don't know how to summarise.

I initially got it on Steam because, well, free, but I ended up getting really into it, and after playing the first chapter, I really want to buy the other 4.

My main gripe is, for some reason, one (adult) main character switches from appearing, sounding and acting like an adult, to appearing, sounding and acting like a child. I don't recall there being any explanation given, and the main character is surprised by this, meaning they do acknowledge it in-universe. It's probably just to show that she can be something of a woman-child I guess. It also ends up making some scenes... complicated? Uncomfortable?

Incidentally, it's apparently an eroge, but the "H-scenes" are taken out of the English Steam version. Though some of the sexiness is retained, so be warned.
Just in case anyone is unaware, Funimation has updated their video player to work with modern systems! Huzzah, no more Hulu flash player!

The only downside is I'd now have to make an account to watch mature titles, so now I can't watch Black Butler Book of Murder.

Never used the site before, so tried to check it out to see what it was... and then found out it's apparently region restricted (I assume that's why I'm getting an "Access Denied" message.) Either way, do you mean it uses HTML 5 for video playback now?

Err, you don't want to make an account there? I doubt you're not old enough...

BTW, what do you guys think of the upcoming Ghost In The Shell movie?

Has Anybody ever used Crunchyroll? how does it work exactly and how is their selection?

Typical Hollywood trash, wouldn't watch it ever, not even if you paid me. The West shouldn't try to adapt anything from the East, in my opinion.

Have never used it since I'm not into streaming...and a lot is restricted for me anyway. Since you are from Germany, better look into that before you commit to anything.

I hope it's good because it's their best shot at making it work. It's still hard to say much since only a few trailers were released but some of the scenes are indeed very close to the original material. I did have an issue with the shelling sequence but it wasn't anything major.

Crunchyroll is one of the top anime streaming sites nowadays, which is kind of funny to me. I can still recall how bad it was in its early days, lol. Anyway, you pay a fee per month to watch whatever's in their library (similar to Netflix). The titles they have are quite decent and updated but there are also geographic restrictions. They also have the bigger names on simulcasts, an hour after Japan broadcast. If possible, you can try their 2 weeks free trial to get a better understanding of things.

If infinite9 reads this, maybe he can explain more.

Crunchyroll is actually free to use but buying premium membership gives more (ie. no ads, HD-streams etc.)
They do have comparison-table what nicely shows differences. :-)

Thanks for the link! I can't be bothered to look it up. Its early days were so bad.. They were basically profiteering off fansubs and stuff before going legal.

Oh thanks for the info! It does seems like crunchyroll either is pretty limited or the german based selection just sucks. I got excited because I heard they had mangas now too, but it seems they only have like a dozen available for my country.

That's a little... extreme. Do you just dislike Hollywood blockbusters in general or...?

I also hope it's good. I plan on watching it, but I don't know anything about Ghost In The Shell, so I'm not sure if I should check out the source material first. I enjoyed Edge of Tommorow, and was surprised to find out it was based on a Light Novel (which I am yet to read).

However, I have to wonder why there would need to be a live action movie adaptation of this in the first place. It may be hypocritical of me, since I really enjoy superhero movies (mostly Marvel), but comic books are American anyway, so I still have to wonder why they'd want to adapt a(n originally) Japanse work. Is it just part of Hollywood's addiction to adapting anything and everything?

KasperHviid: Any VR-themed anime that are worth it? I could never get into Serial Experiments Lain. (it was too deep, or maybe the subs were just too crappy.)
Found some sort of list of animes which are more or less VR-themed. Quick look shows that it consist pretty much series than full length movies so if you are trying to find show for art cinema it looks pretty bad. From the movies I would say that Summer Wars might be something to check out. It's VR-content is more of traditional Second Life-style than using VR-goggles or uploading your mind to computer etc.

Both, actually. What I've read and seen about it so far was already sufficient for me.

I've also watched everything of Ghost in the Shell (apart from Arise for obvious reasons). So that's that.
