wish visual novels would be banned

oldgamebuff42: Demon Slayer now sounds really interesting to me. I don't know when I'll check it out, and whether I'll start with the Manga or the Anime, but I'll get to it in due time, lol. I also had a friend recommend Death Note. The short version is that I've got a pretty big backlog because as well as what I'm watching anime-wise, I'm reading the Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle Manga series after being let down by the fact that the anime stopped inconclusively after season 2 and am on the fourth omnibus(no spoilers, please).
most of season 2 was filler from what I understand. It did get two canon OVAs, the Tokyo Revelation one that continues the story if you ignored the filler. But then the Spring Thunder OVA skips the arc after the Tokyo one to get to the final arc even though it ends just before the final battle actually starts.

though you've probably finished the series by now lol.

So, don't like it, don't play (/read) it. Not sure why the desire to "ban". Besides, haven't I seen you speaking out about "woke" stuff before, or is that another poster? It would seem to me that, generally speaking, anime/manga/VNs/etc are much different than the very tame, focus-grouped kind of Western fare that a lot of people would call "woke".
Can anyone recommend a good and free source to learn Japanese? Like, maybe, a site or an app? I tried Drops but its exercises are just memorizing random words. Where can I learn more about language structure? Like what each kanji means and why sometimes the same kanji is pronounced differently.

Duolingo is good enough for a first approach. The community is very helpful, there are a lot of discussions going on regarding grammar, phrasal structure and such. Look it up.
So I've started reading Hellsing(No spoilers please) and I've fallen in love with it. The story, art and characters are all amazing. Not for everyone? Certainly, but a winner for me.

I'd suggest actually having classes with someone that knows Japanese. There are a lot of things to grasp and cases that need paying attention.

Even the way people talk in manga and anime tends to be far different than what you're supposed to talk like in a real conversation, so that's a learning curve that I don't see being covered often.

Hello. Just noticed your post. I haven't finished the Tsubasa Manga series yet, but now that I've started I'll probably keep going to the end, rather than watch the OVAs(will do afterword, though:)

Depends where you are. They aren't plentiful on the ground in many places...(heck more Koreans here!!)
I like manga up to a point but finding light novels have a bit more depth (was initially put off by how skinny the books are but then they are "light" novels). Any recommendations for light novels?

Monogatari series, maybe? There's an ebook bundle of them on HB until Dec. 30, if I'm not mistaken. (also comes with some manga and audio books)
Still reading the Hellsing Manga. I also am reading, of a lighter flavor, Sweetness and Lightning.

P.S. I'm getting close to the end of the Gundam Wing(anime.) and I'm close to the halfway point with the Tsubasa Manga series.

As always, no spoilers please(for any of these).
