I came home from a hard day at work during which I had to apologize many times to customers for our failure to provide timely service. I put my keys and phone down on the banister for a moment while I brought the garbage cans back up from the curb. Inside, I was greeted by my pregnant wife, my infant daughter and my almost 3 year-old. I kissed all of them. I heard how the 3 year-old had been defiant today. I held the baby and listened to details of my wife's day.

As happy as I am to be doing it, I'm aware that it is a scene most likely to be cut from a student film for being too banal, too cliche, for not lending enough insight into the lives of the characters.

I prefer to call it "ordinary."

What was the last boring thing that happened to me? Well nothing much happened today. The weather was cloudy and pretty cold. Firefox for some reason keeps telling me Flash is "outdated" even though I had just updated it. Has anyone else ever had that issue?

Here's one banal thing: Me presenting to my boss my work made by method E. My boss rejects it and says: 'I didn't say method E, do it again with method F'........ The same thing has already happened with methods A, B, C, and D.......

The last banal thing that happened to me was yesterday. Rainy and cold day,laptop on the ready and watching Netflix. Browsing through it watching from Power Rangers and the 90s X-Men series while the world just continues on without me noticing.

The last utterly banal thing that happened to me was being driven insane by this utterly banal Chinese new year's eve. It's still early in the evening (20:30) and I can't take any more of this already. Over the last 2 hours I've heard nothing but the incessant sound of annoying fireworks and firecrackers exploding right in front of my window and it's making my ears bleed. I see firework lights flashing from every point of the horizon; there isn't a second of silence and this is only the beginning...
Yes, this is a completely banal situation provided you're in China.

Not in but I spent all morning trying to figure out what the hell "banal" meant. :P

I woke in the morning, ate a good breakfast, wore my pressure suit and got into the capsule. Made the final checks and begun my ascent to the sky. About an hour later a passed the Armstrong limit and I experienced some problems with the visor heater. But I had to continue. About three hours had passed since the capsule door close while on surface and I was flying at about 40 kilometers above the surface. It was time to bail out; I made the final checks and when the pressure between the capsule and the outside stabilised, I opened the door.

I knew the whole world was watching me. I stepped in the air and fell.. home. I was free falling for nearly four minutes until I deployed my parachute. Finally, I landed somewhere in New Mexico. They said I broke the Exit Altitude, the Maximum Vertical Speed (without drogue) & the Vertical Distance of Freefall (without drogue) records. Bah, another day at work... ;-)
