GameRager: How is it unreliable? They are letting those who bought it keep their games/access to redownload such.
AB2012: I think he means it's less reliable for non-owners who didn't manage to buy it before removal in that with older disc based games, you've usually still got the option of legally grabbing a 2nd hand copy off Ebay. Eg, I can still buy No One Lives Forever, Dune, etc, discs even years after distribution of those games has ceased. With digital distribution, there's no 2nd hand sales and thus no legal option of non-owners obtaining it the day after it gets officially pulled from digital stores. Digital distribution (ie, locking games to individual people) may be more convenient for "stable" titles, but lack of a 2nd hand market has also ended up a lot more fragile for games at risk of being removed.
Good points, but all/mainly digital dist. is going to be the future for many devs(especially smaller ones with no funds for physical mass distribution/etc) as costs of physical shipping go up and file sizes increase.
Plus yeah, the games may be gone on many legit storefronts, but for some that isn't a problem(i.e. they;'ll get it "other" ways and then buy it when it becomes available for sale again online).
