Hi,

I'm having a huge problem with the latest GOG Galaxy version. I have been using Galaxy for a couple of years now with no problems. When I launched it, it used to start in a few seconds.

However since the latest update (which brought the notification system) I have had major problems launching the GOG Galaxy at all. First I thought it was completely broken, but after waiting for almost 10 minutes it started.

Some other weird things are happening while GOG Galaxy is starting up. Every window on my system gets "focused/not focused", alternating between 1 second intervals. It makes typing any text a pain in the ass until Galaxy screen finally appears.

When looking the Windows task manager during the 10 min startup, the process called "GalaxyClientService.exe" starts, shuts down and restarts every 2 seconds (which I guess causes the "out of focus") issue.

What's also interesting, is that the process called "GalaxyCommunication.exe" is left open even after I manually exit the main program. And the main program always takes almost 10 minutes to start.

----

Is there a way to revert to an older version of GOG Galaxy before this issue is fixed?

----
My specs:

Core i7 920 @ 3,3 Ghz
24 GB DDR3 memory @ 1600 Mhz
2x 240 Samsung EVO 850 SSD (One of them contains the OS, Steam, Origin, Uplay with no problems)
2x 2 TB Western Digital Hard Drives
Nvidia 780 GTX, 3 GB VRAM
Asus Xonar Essence STX II

OS: Windows 7, 64 bit
It's a known issue.. GOG is working on a fix. They said it should release today or tomorrow.
I packaged all the log files in one zip file. Take a look:

olzie.mbnet.fi/Gog_problems/GOG_Galaxy_logs_september_2017.zip

(add http to the beginning, I don't know why I can't post any direct links =(
Exactly the same problem here. Hoping for a fix ASAP.

Good to know, I also have this problem and I wasn't sure what was going on.

It looks like it may have been postponed by one more day according to GOG staff.

You mean that it takes so long until it even shows up or that Galaxy is in a frozen state for an extended period after launch? I'd been having lots of freezes and whatnot, including also a 5-10 minute freeze after launch but a clean installation solved it. Works perfectly fine for me currently.

How to do a clean installation is explained in detail here. Note that doing so requires you to reimport all your installed games which may cause some trouble (in my case every game was kind of "updated" even though the installed version was up-to-date - but nothing worse than that happened).

I have this problem, too. It started right after the last update. I tried a clean install but in my case it still doesn't work. Well, luckily it's not Steam - i can still lie sick in bed and play - when the Steam-Client doesn't launch your screwed :)
It looks like this update may have been pushed out today after all. I see it listed in the changelog as 1.2.23, but Galaxy is currently having an issue updating for me.

EDIT: Just got it. Try to restart if you don't see an update available.

EDIT: Well it updated after a force update but it's still showing the old version. It's also still messed up. So I guess they didn't push it out, it's just showing in the changelog for some reason. Tomorrow it will be I guess.

I am having the same issue. Just want to verify it's the same thing as this just started a couple days ago. It's not that it's taking too long start necessarily. It's just taking to long to successfully start is what I am seeing. In the windows ever viewer I see the attached screenshots. In the Windows system logs 50+ entries for "The GalaxyClientService service terminated unexpectedly." If I wait long enough it eventually succeeds. Event ID: 7034

In the Windows Application Logs I see an APPCRASH message. Can anyone confirm this is the problem they are working on?

Yes this looks to be the same issue. You would have noticed it after the 1.2.22 update which was Tuesday, I believe.

You sure you deleted all the folders listed in the support article I linked to? I presume it's particularly the stuff in AppData that needs to be cleansed with the breath of Satan in order to get it to work again.

That's correct. When I started having these issues I simply began launching the games directly from their folder.

I want to play Trails in the Sky soon, though, and as I'm a bit of an achievement whore I decided to get Galaxy up and running again.

Looking at the changelog for the update that is suppose to fix this tomorrow. It looks like this issue may be related to having Galaxy installed in a non-default location. I assume it means not in C:\Program Files(x86)\GOG Galaxy

You might of had a different issue that what the OP has. You can easily spot it by looking at the task manager when starting Galaxy. You will see the processes in the background starting and stopping like crazy.

Hotfix for long Galaxy start, when it was installed not to default location

That's correct but Graiden, who I was specifically replying to there, seems to have the one I had.
