Sturleson: Well, they decided before the sale how many to give away and how many games on sale. It's crazy of them to have an extremely limited amount of free bonus games WITHOUT TELLING US THAT FACT. The should have made the announcement say " only 100 bonus games, first come first served ", or however many. They kinda suckered people in here, but I'm sure not intentionally(look at all the freebies and guarantees they do give). Just stupidly.

omega64: They did tell you the free games were limited, not seeing it doesn't mean it's not there.
That's how insurance companies do business.... little catches hidden in plain sight.

OldFatGuy: Yeah, that is pretty lame. I hadn't reached my first free one yet either.

Come on GOG, this is bad. Bad planning or execution or both, but this is not the way it should happen. Here's a tip... when the free games get "wolfed down," end the insomnia sale. No frustrated customers.
Exactly my opinion. I myself didnt see anywhere that the freebies were limited so when it suddenly ended and the sale did not, I felt played. GOG started to do that often recently, make me feel that they are just tricking us. I dont care about a free game, I own 354 games and I will keep buying. I bought 40 games double or tripple just incase i want to gift them to someone. I bought games on GOG even tho I had physical copies or own them on steam. But when such things happen, I loose my appetite.

In short, I am not at the point of saying I will stop buying games if GOG keeps being rude to customers but I dont like their strategy. At the moment Steam is much more reliable and nice to me.

PS. I want to add that Steam games are Half prices for Turkey compared to GOG. In some games even when a game is on 80% sale Steam version is cheaper. Yet I still prefer GOG because of DRM free.

ReynardFox: I hope this is the last time we'll see this asinine Insomnia sale nonsense.
No chance if the sales keep doing well (even this one seems to have done well overall), but hopefully GOG will continue improving them.

Grumpy256: If this is the case I may not look at this site again. I have been active for 20 hours and now I can't get a free game? If you give me a shit game I will know it and never come back again!
You're free to issue refunds for games you haven't downloaded/recently purchased and GOG should do it no questions asked. That's what action you can take if the free games were an incentive for any of the purchases and you needed to have them.

Or just give everyone witcher 1/2 codes instead. Worked before, can work again. They should have an unlimited supply of it anyway. Or Keane games.

This is one of the reasons I used to say GOG needed exclusives. Valve is able to default to source games for any promos along these lines. GOG doesn't really have anything and whether or not they'll step up and do something at their own expense depends entirely on how many people complain rather than any principles/customer service. It's always unfortunate when companies are like that. "It's not an issue until there's a reddit thread about it" type BS.

I refused to have anything to do with this sale because of the exploitative nature of the sale.

I'm guessing that they only had permission to give away a certain number of copies by the publishers and at some point they hit that limit. The same thing happened with that stupid gambling promo they did where games would run out as time went by meaning that if you got in later there was a worse selection of games than when you started.

The OP is completely right to complain about the fact that there was no indication that there was a limited supply and no indication of how many more copies were left.

Promos like this are a large part of why I buy fewer games now than I used to. The promos used to be a lot better.

Are they improving them though. It doesn't seem like they're putting any effort into improving their sales, they keep getting worse and worse. I guess enough people buy into them that it's not an issue, but it's been ages since they did a promo that I bought anything from.

Eh, yeah I guess one could say this wasn't improved on the previous ones, although perhaps the "fewer copies but more repeats" could be considered an improvement, to avoid another Keaning. My main point was, I guess, just the obvious, like you stated: if people keep buying from 'em, Insomnia'll keep showing up.

I didn't buy anything either but for different reasons. I thought you were avoiding buying on GOG because of a Wasteland 2 screw-up and disagreement with policy changes in general. (Side-question: are you buying elsewhere?)
I thought the sale itself was fine. I liked the smaller quantities and shorter flash durations. This was especially nice for the late evenings which used to severely drag. The freebie issue was just plain unacceptable. You can't run out of freebies halfway through the sale like that. Too many people planned their buying ahead. If they ran out toward the very end would be another thing...

Obviously there could have been minor improvements such as an available link to the game pages, but all-in-all I felt it was an improvement over the first one. Although it might have been nice if it more like the double insomnia with a similar format and some daily sales for those who who didn't want to participate in the flash sale part.

From my perspective, those are all related issues. I bought some of the LA games when they came here, but I rarely buy games anymore because I'm disgusted by the way that I've been treated by the various stores.

The fact that I also don't have a whole lot of time for playing games factors in a bit. But, it's hard for me to get enthusiastic about these sales when they're so blatantly about pushing as many copies as possible. In the past they had some rather interesting promos where you could partake without having to be chained to your computer for long hours.

I liked the Time Machine promo, but I think they should have brought it back with all the games being on sale for a day or two at the end. Even if they made the discount somewhat less than during the promo it would have been preferable to the way they had it.

The insomnia sales are particularly problematic because sleep deprivation reduces your ability to exercise willpower and to make mindful decisions about what games you want to buy and I don't support that sort of blatant abuse of customers.

EDIT: I guess I bought the Doom and Quake games when they came.
