Previously on... Adventure on Mystery Island
After an unfortunate plane crash and a rather fortunate encounter with the enigmatic Monolith of Multitude, you end up with sand in your shoes, a precious code for Rebel Galaxy in your pocket, and a healthy dose of curiosity in your gut. But the path towards the second Monolith goes through a rather foreboding castle...

CHAPTER 2: Sidequest Castle

You stride towards the castle, excited to meet its resident. Sure it looks like it could be the home of a man-eating dragon, a vampire lord, or -even worse- a lady that enjoys talking to her mirror. But as every adventurer knows "what doesn't kill you, better drop some phat loot". Your inventory is ready: bring it on, castle!

Despite its foreboding appearance, Sidequest Castle is, in fact, a place of whimsy and playfulness. Apparently, the huge purple she-dragon that lives here is a lover of role-playing: gigantic costumes are strewn about interspersed with theater props, while a number of cardboard backdrops hang from the ceiling, ready to be deployed on the castle's main hall/stage. You're still taking all this in when the dragon suddenly swoops down, presses her snout against your face and snorts: "So, little human, you're here to play. But what role should I give you, mmm? That of the sneaky sneaky thief who's come to steal my possessions? Or that of the handsome knight, here to rescue... the princess?" (*blushes*)

Time to decide, adventurers: Would you rather play THE BURGLAR or THE KNIGHT?

Help shape our story: make sure to cast your vote in our upcoming Twitter poll before Saturday 12:59 PM UTC. The winning choice will be implemented in Adventure on Mystery Island: Chapter 3, coming this Saturday to a newspost near you!

I recall reading some opinions from the shovel knight devs that suggest we'll never see any massive discount for it. I could be wrong but I feel like voting knight won't get you a free or super-cheap copy of shovel knight, if that's what you're after?
Woohoo! American McGee's Alice, and Thief confirmed!
So Excited won over Wary in the previous poll. Wondering how this decisions are affecting the progression.

That's their prerogative. I was more intending to say that Shovel Knight happens to be one of the few cases where I'd be interested enough to pounce on a surprise discount in this sale.

(Also, it's the only "Knight" game not already discounted according to GOG's search and they never surprise-discount things that are already discounted in the sale, because it would make people who paid at the lesser discount feel cheated.)

As for the Shovel Knight devs, I actually had a respectful exchange with them maybe a year ago where I informed them that, while I don't pay more than $5 for games because it'd mean I wouldn't have enough money to reward every developer whose game I like, their game is certainly one I will buy, should it ever drop far enough on a DRM-free site to trigger my IsThereAnyDeal.com waitlist notification.

(In fact, given the direction things have been going with GOG, I may be able to raise my normal ceiling to $7.50 now. I'll keep an eye on how my budget reacts over the next couple of months (and whether the Canadian dollar continues to drop relative to the U.S. dollar) and then consider it.)

Given how much extra content Shovel Knight gained before they started DLCing new buyers, I could definitely make it the fifth game out of my collection of 2000+ digital downloads to get a pass up to $7.50, regardless of whether I raise my overall limit. (The other exceptions were Minecraft (InDev-era alpha), Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Legend of Grimrock, Stardew Valley, and a $10 donation to OpenTTD that may or may not count as part of the list, depending on how I'm feeling on that day.)

*chuckle* If Alice is what Knight means, you won't see me complaining. While I did eBay a CD-ROM copy of it at one point in the past, I'm always up for paying $5 or less to remove the disc check. (Same thing already happened with Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines)

Wary would mean the Hero would cautiously approach the castle, rather than excitedly run towards is :P
(since we will never know, I guess that's explaination as good as any)

I think you're right about that. I doubt the choices affect anything else than story progression. The end result probably remains the same either way once we have reached the second monolith.

Anyway, it's a nice touch that adds a bit of flavour to the sale and I really like the artwork. :)

I gave it a thought or two, and I'd be pretty disappointed, if the choice at that "don't go there" pole would be "Left or Right" :P

Also, I think that purple gate there is not in fact a Star Gate, but a Warp Gate, which in turn *MAY* mean some nice WH40k surprise, (Like DoW series, which means I'd vote "right" in such poll) :P
So what do these choices do? does the community get something? Did I miss something after the first vote?

Don't think so, think it just affects the story development.

The part where the choice would "matter", and would have some "heavier" consequences, I think will come at this totem "Don't go there", as there is a crossroad, and I'm afraid, the choice would be cliche "Left or Right".
The Knight!

I have a similar approach to gaming, rarely spending more than $5 on a game.
I mean, if some of the best games ever created (like HoMM2, HoMM3, Master of Orion 2, Master of Magic, etc.) can be purchased for less than $5, then why should I buy worse modern games for more?

However, in my case exceptions include:
- Minecraft (beta)
- Kerbal Space Program
- Factorio
- Stardew Valley

All have great modding potential, and seem to be under active development even after release, which means they will never get old, constantly getting new content and constantly having new things to discover, whether official or created by players.

Also, I can tell from personal experience that these are games one can play for months, putting hundreds of hours into each... only to return to those games a few years later, just to see what's changed since then.

(Stardew Valley modding scene is in early stages though... it'll be interesting to see if someone mods automated factories into the game, for example :P )

Kinky... I like that dragon already. And she's playful too...
I wonder if she's played too much Leisure Suit Larry though.

Agreed on every point and I definitely want Kerbal and Factorio, it's just that I didn't have the "obsession at first sight" reaction I had with Minecraft, Giana, Grimrock, Stardew, and OpenTTD.

That "6 out of 5 stars" reaction is what is normally necessary to justify paying more than $5 for something where there's no manufacturing cost, "shipping" costs of less than a penny, and nothing to put on my shelf. (And Stardew is the only digital download I've ever paid full price for, because it was my gift to myself for completing my degree.)

I wonder what are we playing with her. DnD? Man, that would be deliciously ironic :P
Man, my choices never win.

I wanted to be depressingly WARY rather than EXCITED to meet my potential death, and then instantly voted for some thief goodness, since being a sneaky amoral bastard is way more interesting than being a "knight" who rescues a princess (I like stealth games).

I guess I just have to listen to the PEOPLE :D
