I can also suggest the Penumbra games, however I think they might be a specific taste... not everyone will enjoy them. I thought 1 and 2 were kind of decent, thought 3 was total crap. The ending for 1 was one of the scariest moments I've had in a game, so kudos to them for that in an otherwise somewhat decent game. You inherit strange instructions from your father that lead you to a hidden facility in Greenland.

Also, you might like Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. An unfriendly coastal village has hidden secrets.

As with all games, watch an LP to see if you'd like it.
