I tried playing Chronicle: Runscape Legends. It looked fun, a bit like Hand of Fate, which is one of my favourite recent games And you know, it probably is actually a pretty good game. The rules are easy, it's quite original... but I can't have any fun with it, I suck so bad. And I have no idea why. I'm usually decent with card games like that. Not great, defiantely not, but ok. But this game- I can't win a single match. I'm getting my ass handed to me so bad, I'm not even angry, just amazed. I don't even know what I'm doing wrong.

However, I'm not here to whine about sucking at that game. I'm just curious - we talk about our favourite games, worst games, dissapointing games, weird games etc. etc. But are there any games like this for you? Games you really wanted to like, and would admit they are probably perfectly good games, but you just sucked at them too badly to play them and get anywhere?

Dark Reign
Alpha Centauri

ANYTHING TBS.

And if this counts, since I'll be getting it next month, the original Legend of Zelda.

Chess and poker. Abstract thinking isn't my strong point. Also they bore me.

Considering only games where the difficulty wouldn't be considered a design flaw:

I would go with Crimzon Clover; World Ignition, although I have reached the 3rd level on Novice Boost mode.

(That game does have one significant flaw; there's too much visual noise, so it can be hard to tell whet is a bullet (that you need to avoid) and what is a star or background (which you can generally just ignore).)

Also, the Android game Danmaku Death. I remember finding another Android game called Danmaku Initiate that felt quite manageable on the lowest difficulty. (Note that these two Android games have ads, but they fortunately don't show up during gameplay.)
Any RTS. Although I wouldn't classify them as in a group of games I would like to enjoy more, I much rather learn to play grand strategy or more TBS games, but still, I very much suck at them. Strategy and speed does not go well together IMO.

eksasol: Chess
I'm with you here!
Master Of Orion + Master Of Orion 2
Almost anything with "action" somewhere. Except Quake 3 arena. But even in that I'm not excellent, but at least about as good as the friends I play with sometimes.
X3
Risen 1 and 2 (I get to a point where I suck Too bad at combat to move on)
King of Dragon Pass

Theres a few I'm too dumb to play.
Probably fighting games.
I used to be semi alright at Soul Caliber on Gamecube but generally I suck at them. Can't be bothered with remembering the combos and learning the visual cues for when to attack or defend.
But then I don't particularly enjoy the genre either and wouldn't really be bothered about getting better.

I'm also not brilliant at combat platformers (anything from Contra to Castlevania, though I did win Rogue Legacy), if I have to navigate jumps and platforming while killing things (that doesn't involve landing on their heads) I'm no good at it.
Master of Orion
Master of Magic
Civilization
etc., I guess 4x strategy games or whatever they are called?

I just have problems comprehending what I am supposed to do in those games, even if I am playing according to some online tutorial. RTS games and such are much easier for me, constructed so that I learn constantly as I play. Playing those aforementioned games feels to me like learning to swim by someone just throwing me into the deep end.

I don't know if it is related. but I got a bit similar feeling in e.g. Theme Hospital and Rollercoaster Tycoon. i mean, ok, does it matter what size each room in TH is, or if I put some plants somewhere? In RT, does it matter which kind of machines I put there, or should I put one of each? Should I put a merry-go-round, or that ship which goes up and down, or both? Is either one better in some way? What what whaaaaat?

It is just all very confusing to me for some reason, I have no idea what is the meaning of different things, it is not apparent what they will affect. Then again I did master Dungeon Keeper (which I guess is a bit similar game for the gameplay mechanism?) so I guess there's some hope still... Oh yeah and UFO Enemy Unknown, but for this I really needed to read some FAQ about what is important and what is not.

I won't mention games like Forsaken (in Total Mayhem difficulty level) because it is not so much about me sucking in that game, but the difficulty level of that game just being overly insane
.

Every game in the TBS genre. And Outcast. I'm terrible at Outcast.
Republic: The Revolution (2003) from Elixir Studios [this game was removed from GOG about 5 years ago]

Well I waited for this game patiently, the reviews were fantastically good. Soon after i downloaded it from illegal sources (there was absolutely no way to get it legally at that time) and launched it i relalized that i don't like the interface and that i'm a very dumb person, i just couldn't do anything frutiful in that game, i couldn't understand what the game really wanted from me, such a disgrace!

groze: And Outcast. I'm terrible at Outcast.
Me too at first. I was very brave and tried to take enemy outpost and was busted pretty quickly. But i tried again and slowly gained some upgrades and killed a few lonely guards, then i relalized the game mechanics and was able to wipe out whole squads without a scratch. Strafing and powerful weapons for the win.

Hearthstone was the first card game I tried of its type, and I quickly learned how useless I was at it. And it wasn't that I was losing against decks with vastly superior cards. I just didn't know how to build decks properly. A significant amount of time later I eventually managed to get a win:lose ratio of about 1:3
It's a fun game with a fair F2P model, but I decided to move onto other things in my backlog instead.

Other than that, almost anything on modern consoles since I'm just no use with a controller. Give me a mouse and keyboard any day.
Vertical or horizontal scrolling shooters, like Gradius or R-Type. I still haven't beaten Hellfire on the Genesis even though I've had it 20 years.
