Fasten your seatbelts and get ready to soar through the sky or steamroll your way through the battlefield with your ever-reliable tank! These 7 unique war games will satisfy even the most hardcore simulation fans.

Even with different conflicts, new machines of war, and varying technologies, the challenge for gamers remains the same - win against all odds. Today on GOG.COM, we welcome 7 retro war games that have been brought back from the past under the logo of video game publisher, Retroism.

Gunship!
This is the third part of the award-winning simulation game series created by MicroProse. In Gunship!, you become an assault helicopter pilot during the fictional conflict between Russian forces and the NATO army. Gunship! combines action and realism, while also providing players with micromanagement options in the form of customizing your gunship to fit your style of play.

Fleet Defender: The F-14 Tomcat Simulation
As the game’s developers stated in 1994, this title was the first flight simulator to accurately recreate carrier-based operations. Fleet Defender: The F-14 Tomcat Simulation gives you the chance to hop in the cockpit of the screaming sonic-speed fighter aircraft. Experience the excitement of a catapult launch from the carrier, dynamic air-to-air combat, and the challenge of landing on a pitching deck at sea.

F-19 Stealth Fighter
A simulator for all retro-gaming lovers, F-19 Stealth Fighter was in many ways ahead of its time. For example, during missions, the perspective of the camera could change depending on your assigned character. Moreover, the game showers you with over a hundred missions set across the globe - from the deserts of Libya to the arctic North Cape.

1942: The Pacific Air War
This time, we travel a little further back in time to become a pilot during WWII. 1942: The Pacific Air War lets you sit behind the cockpit of one of 10 available planes from both Japanese and US air forces. Using the planes available, you can try to either cement historical events or attempt to alter them. A great game for all history buffs.

Command HQ
From legendary designer Dan Bunten, the creator behind such classic strategy titles like M.U.L.E. and The Seven Cities of Gold, Command HQ gives you complex control over a country during the global war - countries from both the past and future. But trigger-happy gamers must watch out - as the technology in the campaign progresses, the risk of a devastating nuclear war becomes more and more real.

Across the Rhine
Another WWII game, this time set in Europe, Across the Rhine, is a strategy game that gives you the chance to witness the war from the nerve-wracking perspective of a tank commander. Take complete operational control of a single-tank platoon and climb your way to the top, eventually taking command over an entire American or German battalion.

Shadow Ops: Red Mercury
We finish our list with an all-out FPS title, Shadow Ops: Red Mercury. This time, your enemies are terrorists who wish to destabilize the world’s political and economic stage. In order to stop them, our hero, a member of an elite anti-terrorist group, must set off on a string of stealth and assault missions across the globe.

So, what will be your role - a pilot, a commander, or a special forces soldier? Check out our retro war games sale and let us know in the comments what was your choice!
Wasn't F-117 a revised and improved version with the same content of F-19? Apart collectionism is any interest of owning both? F-117 even have the option of flying the imaginary bird with its own model of flight fromthe original.

Greetings

igrok: Amazing releases! Thanks GOG for bringing them! I just wish that Gunship were the classic 1991 version, since I doubt the one we got works well in wine (leaving aside version differences and completeness).

Also vote for F-15 Strike Eagle series. Hopefully it will make it here some day, too.
Let's all keep voting on the Wishlist.
I also included the first couple of Civs, since there are some people (like me) who would love to buy Civilization 1+2 on GOG.
Personally, I wouldn't touch F15 Strike-Eagle 1, but maybe a publisher could include it in a bundle, like the Falcon games?

krickeck: I loved these flight sim games back in the 90's

On a similar note, any chance of a release for the F15 strike eagle compilation or F16 combat pilot?

Don't forget the hard to find f15 SE 2 add on Desert Storm
If there are some mods to improve the graphics in Shadow Ops: Red Mercury, however little, I might try it.

Thanks.
I hadn't included that one because it wasn't originally published by Microprose. It was launched by Dynamix.
Might as well also include the great sequel:

I will get Gunship! and probably one more, but no idea yet if Tomcat or F-19.
Wow, F-19 Stealth Fighter! Had that on the Amiga, great game.
Nice releases!

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but still waiting for Comanche to come out on GOG at some point :>.
F19 stealthfighter... i terrorized the whole neighborhood with those screaming jet sounds coming from the pc internal speaker... monochrome but oh how that little boy liked the game... performing your mission, pretending to know how to fly ...
and the surprise when the f117 was revealed. I belief the F19 was a lockheed design which never made it through the prototype phase ... anyways good little game which i will certainly never touch again :D
Nice collection of games though not much interest for me but i do remember being interested in F19 stealth Fighter in the days i had my atari st.

Still would love to see Civ 1 & 2 released but i think that could be a legall nightmare.
Still Microprose where one of my favourite companies back in the days although for me the company Rainbird i thought brought out better games such as Carriar Command and Midwinter 1 & 2.

Yes, F-117 is more like like F-19: 2.0 with VGA graphics and more war theaters. However, for me personally it loses much charm due to its somewhat generic between-mission graphics. In comparison, the art in F-19 is just hilarious, especially in combination with the (unofficial) Russian translation of the game which unlike the American release doesn't pretend to be dead serious. So I will play it mostly for nostalgia reasons.

One difference which makes for me F-19 better, or at least worth getting here (outside of nostalgia), is that night missions are actually dark, really dark. For some reason F-117A no matter what time the missions take place they all appear to be at dusk.
This is great though I wish they included Task Force 1942. And hopefully more Micropose games both military focused and non-military focused will follow. I would love to be able to play the original Railroad Tycoon and Midwinter II again. Plus I hope when Sea Power : Naval Combat in the Missile Age comes out GOG gets it.
high rated
Gunhip! from the year 2000. already own it on Steam, it s a good game, but when I opened store I believed it was Gunship 2000.

Gunship 2000, F117, F15 Strike Eagle 2 and 3, and Harrier (another forgotten sim from Microprose in the list), all of them pivoted around the same idea/dynamic campaign. Amazing replayable an midcore/hard simulators with the bests manuals ever.

I think this collection is well worth for oldies lovers.
