All game list, regardless or the subject or writer, are fun and make for good thread fodder, but are ultimately bullshit. :P

A few months ago I was on some site reading their list of the top ten hardest games off all time, four of which I'd beaten, and in case you don't know, I'M AN AWFUL PLAYER!!! XD

If I beat a game it doesn't go on a hardest list, it goes on a "pulse optional to play this game" list. :P

Smannesman: That is one awful list.
Damn, and I thought I was the grumpy cynical one. I actually can't really complain about the list. Not many of these games appeal to me but I see why they are considered great by others. And I haven't actually stumbled upon a really great game this year yet that isn't covered by the list. The best new game I've played this year is probably XCOM 2 and while it's not a masterpiece it deserves a spot on the list and luckily it's there.

If those are really the best games of the year than it's not been a great year :/
A few in there that are of interest to me (and a couple of free ones I might just have to try) but mostly not my kind of stuff...

It's not bad for Gog though to have 40% of the list here.

paladin181: I do second pretty much every one of these. I really want a good copy of Throne of Darkness. I loved that game but I lost my play disc years ago.
Don't forget:
American McGee's Alice
Fire Fight
Freelancer
Mafia
Starlancer
Urban Assault

Good for GOG. And the list is fairly typical and exactly what I'd expect from something like PCGamer.
It's funny you mention this. During a recent basement cleaning I ended up bringing up a PC Gamer from the late 90s - the shear number of AMAZING classic games either as ads / promos / previews / or reviews was insane.

The magazine even had a top 50 (I think?) games of all time - it was a who's who of veritable classics. Then I loved this place even more, as I realized just how many of them were here LOL. It's crazy what a "hayday" that was.

Amazingly enough, it was funny to see how many genres were on the list that are now (largely) defunct. Military sims and wargames, I'm looking at you.
If that's the best this year has thrown up then it's been an absolute shithouse year
not really interesting for me,

is there a "100 of pc gamers worst 100 bugs of 2016 are on gog" thread too?

+ 1 on that - Armies of Exigo should be doable since its an EA game and that company seems to be interested in gog releases again. Definitely would like to see it since its a good Warcraft replacement.
The vast majority of the games though are titles that would appear on every mainstream media's Top Games list for 2016. So to me this is just another reminder of how much of a mono-culture the world of gaming media is.

I mean, where's the journalist who loved Shardlight? or who couldn't stop playing Earth Defense Force 4.1 ? or who reveled at the return of a spiritual successor to Myst and Riven ? where the hell are these people ?! Instead we get the same programmed robots with preset values, opinions and priorities ... straight from the factory of Western Games Journalism.

Rant over, Ricky Bobby out.

Doesn't look like it's going to improve either.
