I, like most of you I'm sure, have more games than I have time to play them. Were things more ideally balanced, I would start from the first Spiderweb game and work my way through the whole library. But I just don't have the time!

Geneforge has caught my eye and so I've been wondering, if I only had time to play one of them, which should it be?
I'm willing to play an older one with less features or polish or whatever, as if I don't play a later one first I wont know what I'm missing, will I? So should I start with 1? Or does a later game improve on the story and mechanics enough to be the absolute better experience (and doesn't require having played the older ones first)?

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

I advise you to play Genforge 1, indeed the story is quite exciting and the fact of leading a single character to an unknown island, reinforces the intriguing atmosphere.

If you start with another Genforge beyond 1, I can tell you that you don't miss anything because all the stories are independent and don't follow each other.

I think I remember that in the other stories there is a reference to a character in relation to Gen. 1, but I'm not really sure.

In my opinion, the stories of the other Genforges are completely missed, and don't make you want to invest so much, seriously you won't miss anything.
