Hello there, got this for the potluck back during St. Patty's Day, and figured I'd boot this sucker up and check the games out. To my surprise, enjoying them, quite a lot. Started with one, and only played a few minutes of two besides that, but I like the system, graphics are a bit...I'm not gonna say dull as they're vibrant and colorful in places, but they're just kind of bland. Textures repeat a bit too much, and compared to say, Fallout series of the same time, this is a bit light with details. That being said, I'm still enjoying the story, the characters, and most importantly, the morality. I feel bad for people in this game, and while I've always over humanized my 1s and 0s in games like this, I feel genuinely bad I can't save the Awakened and Obeyers, as both have flaws in their philosophy(Takers are idiots through and through).

Anyway, to my question, playing through Game 1 totally now, got to the boat, and I can leave at any time, but found I'm missing the Crescent Stone needed to pass the Shaper Crypts. I know where the guide says to get it, but I'd cleaned out both places a while ago, and found nothing there special. Is the Crescent Stone just a pick up item and I dropped it somewhere, or is it a special Important Item, and I never picked it up?

I had the problem too back in the day and had to look it up in the internet. There were two problems with it: the creatures that drop them (Crescent Shade in Drayk's Vale and Crescent Thahd in Western Wastes) appear randomly (you may have to visit said areas multible times for them to appear) and the Crescent Stone looks like any regular pickable rock so you may easily miss it.
Thanks for the swift reply, it's nice to see this board is still active with the Gamefaqs one being dead. Mind, I never did find the darn thing, either it got erased because it was put into one of my trash piles, or I just never got the thing to spawn. Gonna post a review topic of game one in a sec though, as I finally got all the possible endings(I think), and have some thoughts on the first game, going to start the second in earnest now.

You're welcome. Shame you missed the creatures and could not find the stone but the dungeon is entirely optional. All you'd have found is some uber items, canisters and the final fate of the former Shaper leaders of the island. You could've mined the place for experience too as enemies there are endless. All GF games have at least one optional uber dungeon you can test your mettle with. Just expect to be smashed thru a walls, beaten to bulp and vaporised if you enter underleveled, undergeared or otherwise unprepared! ;-p

Yeah, but with no real story there(At least, not as it pertains to the main series of games), it's not a big deal. Also, getting that treatment in G2 right now. That game got hard, and hits you with some enemies that can just destroy you without effort.

GF games are HARD. For all essense and purpose the normal difficulty is what most players would consider hard and easy being at level of normal. There are plenty of places you are supposed to avoid until later or split thru without being seen or face instant annihilation. There are things that you have to kill before they can retaliate or they annihilate your entire party.

By GF5 AI even seems to play on different rules than player (most things are are hasted and half of things seem to have some sort of attack that hits everything on screen. Those attacks also add various status effects to boot in addition to party wiping damage XD). Iirc, GF2 was first GF where you get your first taste of these kind creatures. And it'll only get worse XD.

Oh and get used to everyone and their mom having more HP than you can ever have (regularly in the thousands in later games :-p).

Still, it's fun for most part and have enjoyed so it so far (skipped 3 due to couple false starts and situation that had only choises I was not willing to do with last usable save (to avoid the situation) made way back when). Currently having my butt handed to me in GF5.
