Hey fellow mobsters!

I've been using ideas and methods from these GOG forums for a while to launch the game on different versions of Windows, and sometimes they even worked. However, I needed a windowed setup, so I could record or stream my games. Here's how I got it running.

1. Download GOG Galaxy and install Gangsters: Organized Crime

2. Download DxWnd from SourceForge or wherever. I use version 2.04.20 - it's old, but it gets the job done (and has 4.20 in the number, which is always a good sign)

3. Unpack DxWnd and RUN AS ADMIN

4. Drag and drop gangsters.exe from the Gog folder to DxWnd, right-click it and select Modify

5. Use the settings provided on the screenshots attached to the post. If there's no screenshot of a tab, it means that nothing is selected on it - it's a blank tab. Save these changes.

-- This is enough for single-player, at least for me. You can simply double-click the gangsters' icon in DxWnd, and you should see the EIDOS logo. No additional GitHub fixes --

The following instructions are for MULTIPLAYER, and all players must follow them, not just the host unless specified otherwise.

6. Turn off your Windows Defender wherever you can in the settings. Can't stress this enough! Turn it off for all networks, private and public.
6.1 I do not run an anti-virus myself, but people say it's wise to turn it off as well, especially if it provides network security features.

7. Install LogMeIn Hamachi. One of the players creates a new network and sends the IP address to the rest of the players, who in turn go to Network -> Connect to an existing network and use the provided IP.

8 (HOST). Launch Gangsters, select "Multiplayer" in the main menu (fourth button from the top) and start clicking beneath the white "connection" text. A drop-down menu will appear, select the last option - TCP/IP via DirectPlay. A small window will popup requesting an IP, leave it black, and click OK. In a few seconds, you'll be able to type in a name for your lobby in the field below "session name". Once you're done, press Create Game to the right of the session name you just provided.

8 (CLIENT). Launch Gangsters, select "Multiplayer", find the drop-down menu below the white "connection" text, select the last option - TCP/IP via DirectPlay. When a window pops up, provide the Hamachi IP of the person hosting the game, click OK. GIVE IT A MINUTE. Direct play works very slowly, but it works.

9. After creating a game, the host will see their session name in the upper right box, and their gangster's name in the lower right box. Clients connecting to their IP will only see the session name in the upper box (Available Sessions). They need to click it once, and then the "Join Session" button below the white "connection" text in the left-hand part of the screen.

10. Give it a minute

11. At last, both the host and the clients should see their own names, as well as the names of other gangsters in the lower text box on the right (Players). After that, everyone just presses the Start Game button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Voila!

I go into much detail about the location of different buttons on the screen because the text doesn't always display correctly. In the game itself, everything works like a charm.

One last thing - if you get the "Time Out" error from direct play, I'm betting your Windows Defender or some other firewall app is blocking access, make sure you turn 'em all off.

If you have some questions, feel like playing a multiplayer game, or just wanna chat about the masterpiece which GOC certainly is, find me on Discord: f3dor#6387

Cheers!
