I can't seem to actually fight back against *anyone* attacking me in any kind of effective manner and I'm not sure what the game actually expects you to do when you are attacked.
At the moment I have the Red Gang attacking me constantly. If I put some guys with guns on street corners and spot them coming well in advance, I open fire and kill one and then the cops just run from 4 blocks away and gun down *all* my guys. You kill one dude and the cops shoot like 6 of yours so...that's not a good tactic.
Even if there are no cops locally, as soon as the gunfire starts they come running in groups of like 20 and you just die.
I then started recruiting a lot of guys with Knives skill. The manual (and several people online) say this can be used to "silently kill" enemies.
This never happens though. If you order a Knife guy to Kill an enemy he just says "Nah." If you order him to Assault he starts stabbing them and they scream but then they just walk off (lol?). I tried tailing the fleeing gangster to find his house or Office but that doesn't seem to work.
Anyway my Fists and Knives guys were sent to assault enemy hoods and basically they either just get beaten up themselves or, even worse, the hood just pulls a gun out and shoots my guys, so I lose even more men.
I then tried just not arming my guys. This results in the enemy killing about 10 of my guys, and then cops kill all the enemy gangsters. They lose about 20 men, but they seem to have manpower in the hundreds so it doesn't matter.
What gives? And what is the point of Knives? :\
