I have a Vista 32bit PC. Installation of Gangsters went fine, at the end I clicked "Launch Game", and Gangsters started without a problem. So far so good.
Then I quit Gangsters and tried to re-launch, this time using the link on the desktop created by the installation procedure (and without modifying it). Surprise: A little message box came up saying: "Error: gangsters.exe cannot be started".

The same thing happened again, when I uninstalled and reinstalled Gangsters.

After a bit of experimenting with the link, I managed to get Gangsters running by ticking most of the compatibility boxes. In fact, with XP (or 98) compatibility, and all others ticked except "run in 640x480" (and I didn't check run as admin either). To tick "run in 640x480" worked as well, but wasn't necessary.

Why is there a difference between using "Launch Game" and using the desktop link?
Is there anything wrong with the desktop link, or does GOG expect its customers to experiment with the settings before they are able to run the game?

Thanks but that still only works half the time and at any given time it stops working in the middle of the game. The funny thing is I bought it here because I couldn't get my disc of it to work anymore. :P

Oh and I saw your other post about Windowed mode. If you get an answer on that can you give me a buzz? Thank you friend. :D

The installer is running as admin, "Launch Game". The shortcut apparently isn't by default.

Gydion: I would like to confirm that you are right! Running the link as admin does work, even without all other compatibility settings (including XP compatibility, which isn't necessary). Thanks!

tinyE: Until now I haven't come across any issues playing Gangsters. I have also installed it testwise on an older XP laptop where it's running fine, too.
And I had noticed that the "windowed" thread I was replying to is quite old. But I thought let's bump it, maybe something new has come up meanwhile - looks like it hasn't.
I hate printing manuals, but in this case it's probably advisable to print the 15 or 20 tutorial pages, I guess.
