Is there any way in GalCiv2 to display a list of technologies you still have to explore to be able to build a certain ship or a certain building?

There is a tech tree option in the science window toward bottom left of screen.

Allot of people complain it should be on the tech tree by default.... most players prefer it but new players would probably think wtf is this? lol

Sorry, I do not understand what you mean. I do not see such a button in the tech tree.

Maybe I haven't been clear enough. Lets say I want to explore an anomaly on the star map. The game tells me that I need a survey ship to explore such an anomaly. But I am not able to build a survey ship. In other games I can open a help page for that ship which shows me which technologies I have to research to be able to build the ship. But I've failed so far to find a page in GalCiv2 which shows me that essential information.
Oh sorry your on Galciv2.... i was thinking Galciv3!

Sorry for my dyslexia! lol

In Galciv2 and 3 you have a starting survey ship. But it is indeed tricky to understand how to build more if you don't know.

In galciv2 What you need is sensors technology. (in Galciv3 its too far down the tech tree to be viable)

It is one of my early priorities to get sensor technology and rush buy a couple of extra survey ships. Usually it is worth it, but sometimes the game gets it in its mind to starve you of money anomalies and then you end up far worse off for having rush bought these ships! lol

Thanks. It's nice to know what I need to build the survey ship, but my question is a more general one. I want to know how I get this kind of information in the game. When I want to build something the game should tell me what technologies I have to research to be able to build it.

So GalCiv2 does not provide this information?

It's been a while since I played the second game, but doesn't the tech screen show you what each technology unlocks?

And I recall most things being more-or-less obvious. There's a line of techs for developing engines, a line for sensors, a line for each weapon and defense type, a line for economic buildings, etc.

I haven't played the game since the community update, which made significant changes, so I suppose it could be different now... ?

I don't think so. With ships, you design anything past the most basic build list, so the game can't really provide a listing of necessary techs. However, if you set the option to save your designs to the hard drive, then when you pick a tech to research, the window for that tech will list the ships you have designed that use it, and also list which other techs are needed to build all ships you have designed using that particular tech. With buildings, most upgrade along the tech branches the basic building appears on (manufacturing, economics, science, etc.), making it a fairly simple matter to find which tech the next upgrade requires.
