I'm getting a black screen with a mouse cursor after the intro movie plays (regardless of whether I try to run GalCiv or the sequel).

Has anyone else run into this and come across a fix? I'm aware other users have been able to run it without issues.

Thanks

Have you tried the ol' Run as Administrator trick? I had a black screen but it was actually before the intro movie and administrator worked for me.

Yes, I've run it as an admin. The introductory movie plays, after which the screen goes black. (The movie plays in a very small resolution, the black screen is a resolution intermediate between the resolution I run at and that in which the movie plays.) I've waited for up to a minute, nothing happens, so I alt-tab out, bring up the task manager, and kill galciv, returning my computer to normal.

Contact support, it may take them a couple of days but they WILL help. Unfortunately this particular thread is pretty dead so almost no one checks it. You might wait forever for someone to notice your problem this way thus support is the way to go.

Okay, thanks for the advice. If I receive actionable instructions which might someone else, I'll edit this thread in case someone looks in six months.

That shouldn't happen. The movie should be playing in full screen, no matter the resolution your desktop uses.

The game runs in a fixed resolution (1024x768), so, if, for some reason, your screen doesn't support this, this might be the reason. However, I doubt this is the case.

The black screen after the intro is normal (at least, I remember it always being there). However, it should only last a few seconds.

I would suggest to take a look if you have the latest version of DirectX 9. If you use Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, you may not have DX 9 at all, because they don't come with it pre-installed. You can get the latest version here.

Also, try to set an exception for GalCiv in your AV software. It may be a long shot, but I recently heard of several people having problems with their games due to the AV they are running (especially NWN2 in combination with AVG).

I hope that, between this, and what Support tells you, you find a solution for your problem.
