Fifeldor: Anyone else not liking Curry's voice in the first and third games?

He makes Gabe come across like an utter douche.

I thought the second game's voiceover was a huge leap forward.
I have ALWAYS been horribly disappointed in Tim Curry's voicing of Gabriel Knight. I had played the non-voiced version that came on floppies first, and was so excited when I heard Tim Curry was voicing Gabe (because I love Tim Curry) that I bought the CD version too. But gah... his accent wavers in and out of that Louisiana drawl, he sounds slimy and scummy instead of just un-self aware douchey. I really did not like his performance.

The NARRATOR, on the other hand...! She was amazing, wonderful, oh how I loved her voice. I would touch things numerous times just to hear her talk about it. And Grace's voice was terrific, too.

I was disappointed in how bitchy and awful Grace was in GK2... it seemed so out of character. She was snarky and clever in GK1, but just jealous, nasty, bitchy and shrill in GK2.

I don't even want to talk about GK3. That was a mess and I will never look at syrup and cats the same again. Ugh.

I agree about the voice-overs that that there seems to be a certain lack of consistence of the characters during every game.

To tell the truth though, I really liked Gabe in the second game, even though the acting was not convincing sometimes.

I enjoyed Gabe in the second game. It was Grace I disliked A LOT. That actress ruined the character, in my opinion. She should have been snarky, not snotty.
Tim Curry was great in GK1. Haven't played GK3 yet, though.

Some of my favorite lines he says in the game are optional lines.

"You already got me, you lucky devil." - When you click the Get button then Gabriel.
"I'm doing the best I can!" - When you click the Use button then Gabriel.
"Hey, that's my Granny! Show her a little respect!" - When you click Get, Use, or Move, then Gran.
"I refuse to cut any more of my hair!" - Try cutting Gabe's hair a second time before he's Schattenjäger.
"No, YOU operate the python!" - Click Use, then the python in the hounfour animal room.
"I really don't wanna be dead. Can we try that again?"
Rejoice all that hated his voice acting, I think Jane Jensen secretly did because she is using all new voice actors on the remake! Its sad because it says on the site that they all sound different..........that is a slap in the face of voice actors! Mel Blanc be rolling in his grave, they account for that and can sound the same for decades. Anyway I know Curry, Mark Hamill, and Leah Remini sound the same so just call them! I think its more about not affording them now especially Hamill who probably charges more now that he is back in Star Wars again.

What I've heard is, that Curry actually had an stroke some months before the voice recording to the remake was about to be done and he really wasn't able to do voice work for a while. And while he does work again, he has slowed down his work space quite a bit.

One reason they really can't use the original audio from the first GK1 is, that the voice compression is horrible in it. If they'd had to do some pick up lines later, the difference would be too jarring, like in the directors cute versions of the first two Broken Sword games.

Then there's propably the thing that their voice budget is much lower than with the previous games. And that back i the day, when voice acting was a new thing, Sierra managed to get some pretty cheap deals, which aren't possible any more.

Hope Tim Curry is doing better I am a big fan of his work.
I think he does an ok job with his voice acting on this but I couldnt stomach his forced accent. I wonder why he just didnt go natural, his voice is lovely

there are so many bad voice jobs tho that his gets lost in the mix. The voice work for the background narration for 1st GK was wonderful, her deep melodic description of everything in the game made it for me.
