I have tried installing GK2 via GOG Galaxy and the backup installer, and both ways I get a message "The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery is not installed. Please install ... with the Sierra Help Pages installer before using this subtitle patch."

I suppose this Sierra Help Pages installer is not something I should find in at the said site (because I didn't), but the "2nd version from GOG, the one that has my fixes for the patches applied", referred to by Collector some seven years ago.

Is this subtitle patch still functional with the current GOG version?

1)Open the GK2Subtitles.exe with 7zip
2)Extract all items in the Subpatch folder and replace it in "PATCHES" folder
3)Play
I just dont get it...
Please help.
I installed Gk2 using setupgk2.exe made by Endroz, so the whole game is on HDD now and I have no interlacing video.
Then I extract Subpatch to game folder for the subtitles.
Then add string "language=351" to Resource.win file.
Ok, and I have subtitles now, but not in every place in the game! I have object descriptions, in inventory, but there arent any subtitles in dialogues and movies... Was I miss something to do?
I try to relocate files from one folder to another, change "patchdir" line in .win file.. No luck.
Collector, give me an advice.

Yeah, not working for me too. Tried everything mentioned on the thread.
Ok. I made some tests and the problem is with this new Scumm version. I downloaded DOSBOX and it worked with the subtitles.

I am having a hard time with this game.
The subtitles patch would be a great help but it does not work with this GOG version of the game.
Methods posted on the Sierra Help Pages, on the ScummVM forum and even here don't seem to work.
Folders name and paths change and even renaming doesn't help.

I wonder if anyone here has a full, detailed and working procedure to enable the subtitles in the GOG version.

My only successful attempt so far was to run the game through DosBox 0.74 after extracting the GK2Subtitles.exe archive and moving the SUBPATCH folder.

Here is a Phatasmagoria patch that put spanish subtitles to the game:

www pakolmo.galeon.com/Phantasmagoria1.htm

There is no similar way to put subtitles on this GK 2 current Scumm 2 version?

What do you mean by "moving the SUBPATCH folder"? Do you still have both PATCHES and SUBPATCH in the installation folder? Did you edit the RESOURGE.CFG file?
It appears that the last scummvm nightly build has some specific fixes for Gabriel Knight 2, and the subtitles option has been added. The addition is from 10 hours ago, so it is very new and, of course, not bundled in the official build and probably untested completely.

greetings
I tested it in ScummVM with the English patch and it works fine. Setup is easy:
1) install the latest ScummVM: www.scummvm.org/downloads (the current bundled version does not support subtitles, GOG should update it), run it and add the game in GK2 install directory
2) download the subtitles patch from www.sierrahelp.com/Files/Patches/GabrielKnight/GK2Subtitles.zip and unpack zip and also exe file in it with freeware 7-Zip: www.7-zip.org
3) copy all files from SUBPATCH folder to PATCHES folder in GK2 install directory and overwrite the current files
4) run GK2 in ScummVM - subtitles should be in the game and also movies

An alternative way to install them is keeping the subpatch along the other files in game folder and pointing/selecting it in scummvm options under routes/aditional. If I am not wrong It should work flawesly like in other games.

Thanks for that !
It seems it only works with the latest SCUMMVM version and doesn't work with the current built in version of GOG Galaxy. But if you want to use GOG Galaxy you can do as follow :
- Install the patch as explained above
- Install the latest SCUMMVM on your computer
- In Galaxy, in the GK 2 page, clic on the option then "Configure"
- In "features" select "Custom executables / arguments"
- Duplicate "File 1" which should be the scummvm.exe inside the GK2 installation folder. Then in the new File created (the duplicate) change the path for scummvm to the one you just install instead of the one built in.
- Tick the "default executable" for this file.
- Start the game from Galaxy. It will launch the latest scummvm from your computer. From here add GK2 to the game list. Then exit.

The next time you will start GK2 from Galaxy it will launch the game directly from the latest SCUMMVM and the subtitles will work.

Hope this helps

EDIT : This won't be needed once GOG Galaxy will update to SCUMMVM 2.1.xx
