Kattus: So, to get subtitles work...

A) Run "GK2Subtitles.exe" -file
B) Follow instructions in Collectors earlier post.

Collector: Yes, and if you still have trouble, just ask for more help here.
just wanna clarify, must i install GK2 in the default directory or may I (like i always do) install it in E:\ (non-default) drive for the game & subtitles to work?

Edit: answering my own Q: can install GK2 in non-default location and subtitles will still work.

subtitles patch works great, out of the box!!

Thanx a lot for your effort man.
Hey Collector, when I try to run your subtitle patch on my GOG installation, I immediately get the following error message and the installer exits before it even gives me a chance to tell it where GK2 is installed:

"The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery is not installed. Please install The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery with the Sierra Help Pages installer before using this subtitle patch."

I placed GK2Subtitles.exe into "C:/Program Files (x86)/GOG.com/Gabriel Knight 2" and tried running it again, but the same thing happened. How do I get the patch to install?

Edit: tried turning UAC off, rebooting, and taking ownership of C:/Program Files (x86) and all its subfolders, but to no effect.

I have the same problem as you 20eman

But as explained before you can open "GK2subtitles.exe" with 7zip and extract it to a TEMP folder.

Then copy the SUBPATCH folder in TEMP to your GK2 install folder.

Edit RESOURCE.CFG in GK2 install folder and change line: "patchDir = .\PATCHES" to "patchDir = .\SUBPATCH;.\PATCHES".

This way it worked for me.
It's a pity that the subtitles installer does not recognize GoG GK2 installed.

Anyways, I unpaced the exe with 7zip and then I copied the contents of the "subpatch" dir into
Installed game's "patches" dir. Some files were overwitten and now I have subs (which are great, btw) and I did not have to edit any files. I think this is the easiest and fastest method.
(I also installed GOG-GK2Fix2 earlier).

Huge thanks for the subtitles patch!

Worked great for me too.
Thanks a lot to you all posters !

Hi, Just purchased GK2 from GoG and I am having immense trouble with the subtitles patch. I have D/L it, opened it using Win7z but it will not let me copy the SUBPATCH file anywhere! I try extracting the subtitle patch into its own folder, but the only file that comes across is an image file of the cover image.
This is driving me spare as the sound quality in GK2 is horrible and I utterly abhor not having subtitles.
Please help me, I am not very versed in the inner workings of computers so plese spell it our for me so a mouse could understand it
Cheers

EDIT: What an awesome, helpful community.... Pfft, figured out a better way to fix the sound anyway

Hi!

I know no-one came here since a long time, but I can't download the file on sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/Patches-Updates-Games/GK2SubtitlePatch.html (the file appears in my download list, but with 'Network error' next to it. Tried on Chrome and IE).

Does anybody know another place where to download it or anyone can send it to me please? (or fix the link fail ^^).

Thank you!

Try downloading the file: http://sierrahelp.com/Files/Patches/GabrielKnight/GK2Subtitles.exe

Maybe you are trying to download the .html (the web page) instead of the patch file.
I got the "GK2 not found..." so I had to do the manual workaround by extracting SUBPATH out of the installer.

Now I find that trying to load a previous saved game crashes GK2 to the desktop, the subtitles work for a new game but loading games don't.

Anybody know about it?

Thanks, I was going totally annoyed and crazy with the damn thing. Tried everything in order to make it run but I was getting only "cannot find installation". Thanks a lot!
I successfully installed the subtitles patch, but saved games (both my own and files for each chapter I found online) do not work with it. Is there a way to correct that and not have to restart the game from the beginning?

I have the same problem with the saved games, I thought of searching for a patch in chapter 3... Anyway, thanks a bunch for the patch (4 years later but still :P)!
