Lebostein: OK, is this the right way? (It works, but I don't know it's correct):
1. Install GK2 with GOG installer
2. Install the "GK2Subtitles.exe"-Patch in TEMP-directory
3. Copy the folder "SUBPATCH" from TEMP to the "Gabriel Knight 2" directory
4. Change "patchDir = .\PATCHES" to "patchDir = .\SUBPATCHES" in the "RESOURCE.CFG" file
Thanks.
Just install it on top of the GOG install. It has to edit the RESOURCE.CFG.

Please read point 4 in my post, I edit the RESOURCE.CFG manually. The problem is, I want to play GK2 with this patch on MacOS + DOSBox. I can't use the installer, but I can extract the "SUBPATCH" folder.
My question again: Is this procedure (see my previous post) to install the patch without installer OK?

You also have to set the language
The current RESOURCE.CFG is:
-----------------------------
videoDrv = VESA.DRV
soundDrv = MT32.DRV
audioDrv = DACBLAST.DRV
joyDrv = NO
cmd = GK2DOS
mouseDrv = NONE
memoryDrv = NONE
minMemory = 1600k
brightness = 0
language = 1
minCPU = 486
smartdrv = YES
language = 351

resAUD = .\
resSFX = .\
resMAP = .\
rescdisc = .\
patchDir = .\SUBPATCH
movieDir = .\movies
robot = .\robot
-----------------------------
I have only changed "PATCHES" to "SUBPATCH"
hm... Here are two entries of language... mysterious
PS: Can you upload an zipped patch with a little instruction to install and configure for non windows users? Thanks!!

What you have there will not use the game patches. The patch path line needs to be patchDir = .\PATCHES;.\SUBPATCH
No need of a zip. The installer will do it automatically. If you are really determined to do it manually, just unzip the installer with 7zip.

PS: I see, you don't understand me :-)
@writer of this patch: There are many, many users all over the world, who playing the old DOS games (with DOSBox or virtual DOS environments) on Linux, MacOS and other operating systems. That users can not start a windows compiled installer. If you want, that all people are able to use your great patch, then add a simple zipped archiv with a little install instruction to your website. Thanks!
My installers do work in Linux via WINE, but as I said, the installers can be unpacked with 7zip.
Hey Collector,
I have downloaded the subtitles patch, but it doesn't seem to work.
I'm not sure it's the right installer, where do I get your installer from and do I need to do anything except installing the patch ?
Thanks in advance
(BTW I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit)

Install it in the same directory as the game. Also, be sure that you have installed the 2nd version from GOG, the one that has my fixes for the patches applied.
Hey Collector, I have bought GK2 few days ago (so I think it's the 2nd fixed version) and applied the subtitles patch but it doesn't work. I tried to move and delete files as you said in your older post but it didn't work. BTW: path to my GB2 install folder is D:\Arth\Instalki\Gabriel Knight 2, when I install the subtitles patch and specify this destination, it adds "GB2" at the end so it looks like D:\Arth\Instalki\Gabriel Knight 2\GB2. Is it ok or should i delete the "GB2" part? Thanks in advance.
The default path for the patch is the same as my GK2 installer, i.e. "C:\Sierra\GK2". I avoid the Program Files directory for my installers because the Virtual Store doesn't work in all cases with old games. As stated, the patch needs to be installed directly into the base folder of the game. Adjust your path to match that of where you have the game installed.
I would like to thank the patch maker. These "English Subtitles" make the game playable for me so I'm very grateful.
I find it a little strange that the GK1 had them no question and GK2 didn't.
Also, I had some difficulty in this thread, on the first page a poster is referring to a post by collector that I can't see.
I did figure out how to install the patch correctly eventually so thanks again.
Edit: Seems like I see more of the thread when I'm logged in.

HaroldAlexander: Hi, I'd like to know if GABRIEL KNIGHT 2 has subtitles, because I'm a gamer from a non english speaking country, and therefore I got trouble understanding spoken english (though I can read it quite well).

Actually, GK2 does have subtitles, but they are not available as an in-game option. They only appear if the installer detected that you have no sound card during installation. I'm talking about the original game installer, of course. I don't know if the same is true of the version here.
You could enable them by opening a config file in the game directory and changing a flag.
As far as I know, you can't have the subtitles displaying if you do have a sound card.
I only discovered this when I was in one particular scene (the theatre) and clicked on an object - suddenly a subtitle popped up! Why, I'm not quite sure - perhaps a missing sound file or a bug. This lead to me doing a bit more research on the subject, and finding that that other fans had discovered the same thing.
I have no idea why they don't give you the option of showing subtitiles in-game. It's a pity.

That's actually not 100% true. Gabriel Knight 2 does have subtitles for all the in-game stuff but not for any of the FMV sequences (which make up a large part of the game).

Hello!
I use HD/DVD Windows version of GK2 on WinXP computer but the GK2Subtitles.exe patch refuses to install saying that the game was not found the in specified folder (in my case, it's "C:\Program Files\SIERRA\GK2WIN").
Does anyone have any idea why this could be? The installer is for DOSBox version, but when you start it, it says that it' also compatible with Enrico Rolfi's (Endroz) Gabriel Knight 2 Windows DVD installer. Still, it doesn't in my case.
And I can't check why it does not find the game because it does not display any additional information about the failure.
Any help is much appreciated..
