Can someone tell me how to remove the 'non-interlace' patch in GK2 that comes preinstalled? I much prefer the interlace in the videos; smooths out the blockiness. I can't figure out how to do it; I have the old cds from the original game if I have to copy over files that haven't been replaced.

Thanks!

I'd be interested in knowing this myself.
Well at sierra help pages, there are 6 files in the no-interlace patch, though the readme file included only mentions 2 of them. According to the readme file removing the files should reintroduce interlacing, but for me that just makes the game crash.

I believe what may work is replacing those 11.hep and 11.scr files (and maybe the other 4 from the patch zip) in the PATCHES directory with the original versions - can somebody with access to the originals try that and see if it helps?

I've never played GK2 with the de-interlace patch.

But, I remember the videos looking very good with interlacing. That is, if you filled in the dark lines you'd have a decent quality video.

My understanding of the de-interlace patch is that it maintains that quality. I can't tell how good it looks from youtube videos because those are compressed enough as it is.

How blocky are the videos with the patch?
Interlacing looks better to many, because it hides the 'artifacting' and 'pixels'. If you play the video at half-size this isn't an issue, as the pixels are small, and there is no reason for interlace. But if you play full screen, the same video looks more blocky and blurry due to the increased pixel size... Interlace hid every other line, thus giving the illusion of less pixellated appearance, and the artifacting (weird blurry and shifting squares (or other shapes) on the screen).

If I had my disks I'd check it out... But personally I wish GOG would have left otu the fan mod and kept things 'vanilla' on this issue, or gave the option to install the mod only if you wanted it...

It's funny that GOG almost never includes fanpatches, but in this case it did. I guess these must have had full backing from the current license holders.
Either that, or the 'no-cd' (and no swapping) part of the patch made it the only way to include it (due to emulation purposes)?

I know that for example Thief 1 and 2 utilize DDFix, which was a fan mod, but that was the only way at one point to get the game to work on modern computers, and still have the ingame lightingl, fog, rain, etc function properly.

Frankly, I'd also like to get rid of that ugly 'fan' overlay that appears on the Sierra load screen :p....

I've provided instructions in the readme.txt file found in the archive.

To get rid of fan credits, simply delete the file 108.v56 in the Patches subfolder, making the game fall back to the original credits screen.
Cheers! Thank you!

This info should be stickied.

Yeeey! It worked! Thanks!

Notice: In my case I had to copy patch files form interlaced folder to PATCHES and SUBPATCHES folders, to finally get it to work.

Sorry if the instructions weren't completely accurate, I don't have the GOG versions of GK games, so I had to do some guesswork. Glad you managed to get it to work. :)

I/ve done fresh install of GK2 and just like I thought there's only PATCH folder. I've fiddle too much with this game lately, so yours intructions are just fine.
Thanks again!

EDIT: When using English Subtitle Patch you must copy interlaced patch files also to SUBPATCH directory to get it work.

Thanks, man! Sorry for the late response; haven't logged into gog for a while. This is great. :)
This is probably the oldest thread I've ever resurrected. I'd love to add back the interlacing but the original Dropbox link is dead (no surprise).

Anyone have it?
