I put myself in a bit of a coner on my last save and I saved it just before Gabriel gets his head smashed near the end and I made a new game.

Unfortunatly when I got to Schloss Ritter some of the stuff was already done like a few of the steps in the "Iniciation" like the bowl on the altar, the hair and salt.

After I did that I went to get the books to find out where Wolfgang went and all the books were already found and now I cant pick up Ancient Digs Of Africa to finish off the day and continue the story.

Any suggestions.
(Reminds me of a problem I had with Far Cry 2 where my friends tried to kill me on my second playthrough after rescuing them after I finished my first game).

Yikes. This isn't very heartening to tell you, but I had some serious game save issues near where you're stuck, at least the very first time I played it (in 1994). That makes me think you're SOL (sorry!), unless of course you are running an old version of the game.

There are some patches available (http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/Patches-Updates-Games/GabrielKnightSeriesUpdates.html#GK1) that ameliorate save game issues, but I'm sure GOG bundles its games with those necessary bugfixes. Did you download your game from here, or are you running an old copy?

Im running the GOG copy. It kinda loses its charm after 2 or 3 play throughs one after the other.
