I'm just curious, is there a reason that the Graphic Novel is not included as one of the free downloads that accompany the game? I'm not to fussed personally, I'm fortunate enough to still have my original copy, but I was just surprised when I noticed it wasnt included as a PDF or somthing.

For those not familiar with it, when the game was originally released, it came shipped with a graphic novel, that explained a lot of the backstory, and tied it all into the games storyline. It was a great little companion book.

It was never a commercial release as far as I am aware, and was included free in all copies of the game. So I had assumed it would have been made available? Was there some legal reason it wasnt included, or just an oversight, I'd be happy to upload a copy, I just wanted to make sure I was not breaking any rules.

Yes, you are right. It really should be included.

I'm guessing there is still a licensing issue, who published/authored the book?
Gabriel Knight 3 also came with a graphic novel that acted as an extended intro to the game, it's also missing from GOG's release. Both were written by Jane Jensen and are really nice additions to the games. I don't really know why GOG won't or can't include them, but both can be found at Replacementdocs. I recommend checking them out if you haven't seen them before.
At least Sierra Help has both and [url=http://www.sierrahelp.com/Games/GabrielKnight/GK3Help.html]GK3 files. Pity GOG doesn't supply them.
That is seriously weird. It's obviously available and offered for free so you'd think there wouldn't be any real problem with including it. GOG is usually excellent in these matters, seeing that all of the related goodies are properly included and often even tracking down extra bits that complement the game. I'm glad it's available, but they really should make it part of the bonus package.

People have to keep in mind that GOG can only supply 1. what is given to them and 2. what they have permission/rights to supply.

Worse case scenario whoever still has the original graphic novels scan them and then submit them to GOG and see what happens. It worked for the Worlds of Ultima games everything about those packages were fan submitted even the games themselves.

Wow, downloaded GK1 and the PDF quality is so bad it's almost illegible.

I can't even open the files now. I think I remember them being decent quality, but I may be mistaken.
This site has a good quality scan:
