Hi,

When I start the game the only thing appears is a black screen and a mouse pointer. After that, I have to Alt Ctrl Del in order to get out of the game. Does anyone have a solution?

Try running it in a different compatibillity, both win XP and win 98 should work better, did on my system wich is the same as yours.

If it fails, try running it normally as admin.
I tried running on Win 95, and 98 compatiblity (also as admin). It just gave me an invalid path error with a dot symbol and then launched giving a black screen, followed by fatal exception error kicking me back to the desktop. I then looked up that error and tried to change the mpeg file by rename it to an "old" extension. One of the solutions online is to look for a mpeg2dmx.ax in the system 32 folder and rename it to an old extension. I only found mpg2splt.old and Mpeg2Data.ax. I've renamed both and it still gave me both errors. Before that, I tried running in XP, Vista compatibility ( also as admin ) and still got the black screen and white mouse pointer.
The problem is probably with the Sierra logo file and codecs.
You can easily fix this by going to your Gabriel Knight install folder and there in Data folder where there is an avi file called "sierra". Now you just need to remove that file and copy some other small avi file in the Data folder and name it "sierra". The problem should only be with that logo file, so you can copy, say, Parch1Geo and rename it sierra.
I'm having the same exact problems in Windows 7-- going to see if the AVI trick works.
that trick works.
This method of renaming the sierra.ave file works wonders! Thank you!
