I downloaded the installer with no issues but when I go to play the actual game, I just get a black screen and nothing happens, until I get that spinning blue wheel that signals the program isn't responding, and it quits out itself or I have to Cntrl+Alt+Delete to get out.

How can I fix this and get the game to run? I'm using Windows 7 and have gotten most games under DOS Box to work if not native. I don't think it has anything to do with UAC.

Hmm, whats your hardware setup? I have windows 7, and my copy downloaded and ran fine, on my desktop, and my netbook, both running windows 7, one running 64bit, the other running 32bit, so I'm not sure what could be causing problems for you other than maybe a weird hardware thing, or something running in the background causing a conflict.

The problem is probably with the Sierra logo file and codecs.
You can easily fix this by going to your Gabriel Knight install folder and there in Data folder where there is an avi file called "sierra". Now you just need to remove that file and copy some other small avi file in the Data folder and name it "sierra". The problem should only be with that logo file, so you can copy, say, Parch1Geo and rename it sierra.

I don't think it's a hardware issue and I tried running the game with absolutely nothing going on the background. All I get is just a black screen, and nothing happens. :(
Hmm so is it just an issue with my Xvid/AVI codec? I have all those up to date on this machine I think.

Will it run with no AVI file in that folder at all?

Zargez, thanks so much. I altered stuff, fooled around with compatibility settings, installed, uninstalled, installed, uninstalled, scoured through Google search results and rebooted my computer three times...then I found your simple suggestion. IT WORKED! Thank you :-)

P.S. I didn't even need to replace the original sierra.avi file with another one; I just moved it to an outside folder, and that did the trick.
