I finally figured out a few solutions to the small 6-legged horsies event! I'm not telling!
A+ thread mate.

Anyway I always ignored those horses because they were never communicating with me. After tons of times I picked the "take them and sell them option" and well my captain died.

Stupid horses.
Having a telepath aboard would help.
I wonder if those "six-legged horses" are a reference to Avatar or Perry Rhodan (M-87 cycle)
I don't know any of the proper (blue) options for this event, but some of the time 'attempting to communicate' gets you an Engi crewmember.
I've always wanted to try that event with a slug crew member, as I suspect that will get a blue option, but they're so rare... The only alien that I've had on my ship less frequently is the crystal guy (I haven't unlocked either of their ships yet).

Nah, telepaths are useless. There's not a single thing they enable you to do, especially and totally and absolutely not during this event!!!11
strange, this event has never caused me damage so far

i always pick the "try to commicate in peace" option
sometimes i get scrap, sometimes an engi, sometimes nothing

Pretty sure they're a reference to the six-legged "shifty cows" in Mass Effect.

Telepaths are highly useful! First, they allow you to see the location of enemy crew without upgrading or powering sensors (even when battlefield conditions prevent the use of sensors!) secondly, they do indeed help in several encounters including the "a blackmarket vendor shows up spinning tales of danger" encounter amongst others. If you think they don't do a single thing, then you haven't played enough FTL!

Yep, that's also a possibility.

Actually I also remember having used telepaths to communicate with the weird mute horse aliens, or somethng like that. Result wasn't much different from the succesful "miscommunication" outcome though : scrap and engi.
That is a bit of a gamble, you never know what you might get.
But I always pick the peaceful option as it has proven several times for me that there might be some good stuff involved, like more scrap, an Engi and so on.

he was being sarcastic buddy.
That one is one of the kickstarter 'donor' events. Marked DONOR_PONY in the data files, which makes it rather clear where the money for it came from. Think the reference is actually rather clever as its a bit obscure (for copyright reasons?) and - while odd - doesn't really push a reference / crossover in that'd be out of place.
