It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

rangetank2: My god, works now. Looks even better than i remember( i had 3.6.9 on Win XP couple years ago) Thanks. Can multiple mods run at the same time, like the FS1 port with the graphical updates, or the new graphics+cardinalspear?
Somehow I thought you were going to say "My god, it's full of stars!" when I first started reading, seems almost apropos, no? :)

A lot of the mods will run the commands to run either their own assets and/or the improved assets, or the original assets themselves when called by the loader. For instance, I believe there is an fsport for the original graphics and an fsport-mediavps. Running the second mod will automatically use the improved graphics because the mod's launcher itself invokes that command. I believe most mods have either their own high-res assets and/or automatically make use of the improved ones.

Is the launcher in the FS2 directory with the Freespace binaries? If so, can you post a screen shot of your Freespace2 directory?
nvm i reinstalled fp2 and went through the instructions again and now it works.

So do you extract that stuff directly to the folder or do you place them in their own folders within the folder?

For getting the main FS2 campaign to work in the FSO engine, there is some rearranging of the folders (OldEnt's step 7), but most of the stuff is extracted to the main FS2 directory.
I am just installing FS2 again after a long time off and noticed this project. I got the game to install and FS1 and 2 look amazing. However, the cutscenes for both are black and white and not in color. How can I fix this? Also, I can't seem to figure out how to get the Silent Threat expansion to work either.

Thanks!
Hi I just installed everything like you asked, but when I try to start a new game it won't let me select it from the campaign. It just let's me click it but nothing happens. Or when I hit the Select button.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm an idiot. Forgot I'm supposed to click the doors, not the big screen to start the game.

Have you followed Step #7 ? If yes, try skip it. If no, try following it.

Sorry I haven't tried FreeSpace Open Silent Threat (Silent Threat: Reborn) yet. :'(

Note to Windows 8 users:
Don't use the 55g launcher linked here, it gave me the win 8 "blue screen of death" equivalent.
Instead, give this a shot:
(Sorry, can't link it, I guess I'm not high ranked or something? There's a thread on HardLight, it's wxLauncher 0.9.4 beta )
Working for me so far.

I think they may have indeed instituted a rank rule to link to cut down on the spam bots.

I also use this on MacOS X.

Hello everyone. I'm installing this for the first time. Since the fs2 open 3.6.12 is old I assume that I download the latest 3.7 RC2 or do I download the 3.6.18 final release?

3.7 RC2 is a beta release. If you want the latest stable release you can go with 3.6.18. I do the latter and then download 3.7 when it becomes available in its final form (once the game is installed changing engines is typically trivial).
Hi. I'm new to GOG - I'm here because I want to play Freespace 2, however the 'compatible' lists only XP, Vista and 8 - surely Windows 7 would also be supported if these are - before I go ahead and purchase can someone confirm this for me please? Thanks.

They just made a typo. It is compatible/supported by GOG (which is not to say that sometimes people don't still have issues, but if you do, post in this forum or contact GOG support and someone will help you out). Also you can download a really great open source engine for Freespace 2 that really enhances the game (hi-def graphics, increased compatibility, etc ...) which is what this thread in particular deals with. Anyway, welcome to GOG! And with regards to Freespace 2, happy hunting! :)
