Just wanted to say a big 'Thanks!' for the great installation guide! Bought FS2 a while back and never got around to play it, but am now having great fun. :)
This game needs 360 controller support with buttons already mapped.

So many keyboard functions in this game.

Getting too old lol.

It'd be pointless mapping the keys by default to the 360 controller, cuz different people use different buttons more often (eg; I rarely use H, or T, but regularly use Y and V).
It has 360 support though :P
Hrmm.. The graphics is the freespace port seem better than the graphics for freespace 2 campaign. Did I do something wrong?

Have you enabled MediaVPs?

Have you tried online installer? Other than that I can't help you right now because I do not have access to my PC yet.

ah.. It was that simple. I thought it just worked, I did not know you had to select the upgrade as a mod to play it. Thanks!
Followed this step-by-step. Thanks for this, OldEnt. Very clear and concise and worked like a charm. Looking forward to diving in.
Every time I click the links for the FSO installer it just keeps opening a new search window asking id I meant FSO installer...over and over. And the compact file "7z" does not exist.
What's up?
Hello!

This link is broken, and i can´t find this file

Step #3
Download FS2 Open Launcher for Windows (current v. 5.5g) and extract to Freespace 2 main directory (eg. C:\GOG.com\Freespace 2).
http://swc.fs2downloads.com/files/Launcher55g.zip
Only use launcher to start the game.

One more thing, if i port the Freespace 1 to the 2, i will also see the videos and menus of FS1 or it will play just the missions?

You don't do the porting for FS1 to FS2, FSport is a mod you can download and yes, when you do so, you will see all the videos and menus of FS1 as well as playing the missions.

A mirror for the launcher can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?wdvzn7hhhzh418m

The hard-light people are also building (in alpha stage) a multi-platform launcher:

You can try this automated installer:

http://scp.indiegames.us/bnr_installer.php

you download the installer and it will search for the most recent links (although even it is missing a few links for mods which will give error messages). However, at last attempt I could download FSport. Note that by default it will try to download everything, which is not necessarily what you want. Other mods that are good are the Blue Planets mods Age of Aquarius and War in Heaven.

huh ... that is very weird all these links being broken ... however ... there is a brand new engine FSO 3.6.14 (as opposed to 3.6.12 which is the current release) that is about to come out and maybe all these links are down because all the programs and content are being updated in preparation for the final, public release of the new engine?

That's just a theory of course, but maybe you should ask on the hard-light forums where one can find the stuff you're looking for:
