It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Thanks Jeff. That was incredibly straightforward, and I'm now enjoying the port.

mpolyakov: Yeah, but the current version of this installer installs the outdated versions of executables, mediavps and campaigns. So If you want to use the latest builds, mediavps and campaigns you need to download them manually.
Actually, the current version of the installer SAYS 3.6.10, but it actually installs 3.6.12 (and MediaVPs).
As a warning for the Mac version, the binaries downloaded from the FSO installer were indeed 3.6.12 but they were corrupted somehow (came out as text files! not unix executables), so I had to download those manually anyway (everything else the MediaVPs, mods, etc ... downloaded fine). They may have fixed that issue though since I used the FSO installer a few weeks ago.
Thanks man, played through FS2 using FSOpen, never could figure out how to get FS1 working.
Nice guide. Could you also write one for importing the Freespace 1 campaigns?

Turey's open installer should have an option to install FSport automatically.
nvm

1) Download FSPort 3.2 and FSPort MVPs 3.6.12 in one package: http://fsport.freespacemods.net/releases/fsport3_2-complete.7z
2) Unpack it into your root FS2 folder
3) Select fsport-mediavps as mod in the launcher
4) Select a ported campaign in the campaign room
5) It is also recommended to create a seperate pilot profile

Also, it is supposed that you already have FSO 3.6.12/3.6.13 and MVPs 3.6.12 installed.

TheExcession: There's a much easier way of installing FS:SCP

http://www.fsoinstaller.com

Install FS1+2 then run the installer. It will download all the necessary files and install them, and a tonne of extra campaigns as well.
Brilliant! Thanks a lot!
Just a note, it appears the FSO Installer does NOT install the SSE or SSE2 executables, which most people will probably want to use.

(It also took a little over 15 hours to complete on my 10Mb cable connection...a lot of those file hosting sites are SLOW).
Yeah, I'll give you 'easy', but it doesn't seem very quick. The MediaVP archive took a few hours to download for me as well. Aside from that, it works like a charm. Although it's worth mentioning that you need to execute fs2_open for it to work properly. Thanks for the guide.

OldEnt: Step #7
Move these files to \data\movies\ directory[...]
I found out that the video files are also available in .ogg-format. (Link ~ 250 MB)

To me those files seem to have a higher quality. Another advantage is that the videos run in widescreen mode. You can use them by simply putting all of the .ogg-files in your Freespace 2 main directory (eg. c:/games/freespace 2).

Well, now I'm confused. My computer runs fs2 at 1024x768 and I won't be using a higher res unless I get a new monitor (which I don't plan to do soon). Other than new campaigns/missions will I be missing out on much if I don't get these fancy downloads?

And if you think I should get them, does the FSOINSTALLER link work well enough? I'd like to have the most stable builds instead of the newest ones.
The FSO installer installed v3.6.12 of the executables for FSOpen when I used it a few months ago, for whatever that's worth.
