Does the GOG version include the FS2 Launcher? (Freespace2.exe in the install folder) (I have the retail version installed.)

If it does, launch that and try configuring your joystick there.

It does work with 2 but i dont get it to work with 1 that way i could open the launcher there and i selected the joystick but still nothing.
You can try Freespace Open, the open source port for Freespace 2.
thanks all i will go on keyboard instead because it doesnt work i can only shoot and move but cant use my other buttons.

sorry would like to help, but I don't know how except once again to suggest trying the Freespace Open engine. It really does improve a lot of compatibility and graphics issues for Freespace 2. I would recommend it if you can't solve your troubles with Freespace 2 vanilla.

I started playing Freespace 1 this weekend with the Xbox 360 USB controller. It worked with no setup required, but I did notice the same thing with remapping buttons, though...if I press a button to remap it, nothing happens, so I'm just dealing with the controls as they are mapped. It's annoying, but I'm getting used to the keyboard/contoller combination.

So you said you can shoot, does the x/y axis of you joystick work at least?

Edit: I just reread your post in which you said you can shoot and move. I can only confirm that I have the same issue with remapping.

Here is a thought that might not be helpful at all:

I have a USB gamepad with a switch that allow DirectInput mode or XInput mode. XInput is a newer API, and I have exactly the problems described in this thread if I use XInput mode. (Other games have no problems).

However, if I switch the gamepad over to DirectInput, Freespace games work perfectly as far as reassigning controls.

As I understand it, the Xbox360 controller drivers are for XInput, which would explain why they have this problem.

See if there is any obvious way to use your controllers as DirectInput devices. This might or might not be possible, but it would make sense that it could solve the problem.
