Does these games work with Windows 10? I have the Steam versions and they don't work well.

The second game works alright with my W10. Not perfect, could be better, but its playable.

Freedom Force 1 is a horrible mess with everything newer than Vista. Has GOG fixed both games for newer Windows versions?

See, you folks say that it works in Windows 10 now. But when I load it up, I get to the menu with no mouse. At least on Steam I can load into the mission and then not do anything.

Just installed Freedom Force on Win 10. It runs without sound and when I Quit I have to sign out to get control back of my PC. Not a great first experience with GOG.

Minutes later I installed FF vs Third Reich. It also runs without sound. And it points to my existing version of characters. (I got it because it was cheap and I was hoping to be able to use it to play without the disk). Hopefully it did not jack up my existing instance. Not a great second experience with GOG.

It will take a lot to get me to make another purchase.

I would have been better off not getting my hopes up for playing FF1 again, or FF2.

Thankfully I didn't spend much for the disappointment.



Update: It seems my PC sound is totally jacked up. Now I can't hear anything for any application. Just great. Thanks GOG.

Just worth noting that both your experiences are with two games in the same engine, both being games with known issues in the Steam releases too. A better first and second experience would be with two unrelated games (different engine, different developer, etc).

Problems with software can happen regardless of where you get it from. Steam, GOG, retail disc, U-Play, Origin, Gamersgate, Humble Store, Desura, etc. Why? Because PCs are so varied with many different hardware and software combinations that no software can be tested on all possible setups. As such, errors do crop up on some configurations.

So, as you are new here, with the Freedom Force games being your first purchases, have you contacted GOG support for assistance? Additional details such as your computer specs (hardware is a must, a DXDiag export will probably be asked for too) will help and will be needed if GOG support are to have any hope of looking into this. If they can't get the games working for you then you should also be able to get a refund, too.

Just taking a quick look through the Freedom Force forum and there's this thread about a sound issue on Windows 7. That could well be related, and it does offer one possible solution, that being to change the selected sound device/driver in the game settings.

These are my notes for getting Freedom Force to work decently in Windows 10. (None of the other compatibility mode changes, click in the corner of this button, or resolution/color depth solutions worked.)

To fix the fist cursor, create a shortcut to fforce.exe. Run in Compatibility mode for Windows 98/Windows Me, and enable Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution.

If you want EAX and you have a SoundBlaster card, copy the ALchemy dsound.dll and dsound.ini files into the game directory, and select it in-game. I've got more than 100 games from GOG and several hundred from Steam; GOG is far better than Steam at making sure that older games work the way that they should, and GOG's employees actually treat you with respect.

I understand that you're frustrated, but it's not GOG's fault.

Fortunately Vs the Third Reich works well for me on Windows 10. I have not set any compatibility mode on the exe either.

Additional solution to getting Freedom Force to work on Windows 10

I bought the Steam version, and it had all the problems everyone has reported with the left and right mouse buttons. I tried "Compatibility Settings", "Run as Administrator" and the GOG version of the fforce.exe. But none of these fixed the problem for me, but fortunately I did find a solution.

(1) Buy GOG version
This fixed the problems with the left and right mouse buttons, but using the mouse to rotate the view or using the mouse wheel to zoom was painfully slow. The game was unplayable.

(2) Install dgVoodoo 2 (dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html)
Copied D3D8.dll, D3D9.dll, D3DImm.dll, DDraw.dll, dgVoodooCpl.exe and dgVoodoo.conf into Freedom Force game folder. This would be "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Freedom Force" since this is for the GOG version. But the screen was extremely dark. Playable, but too dark.

(3) Turned on "Inherited Color Profile in full screen mode" checkbox in dgVoodoo.
When launched the game picked up the brightness, contrast and gamma settings from the Windows Desktop, and it looked great.

I've got a problem -

I'm trying to add some meshes / skins to Freedom Force on a laptop running Windows 10. I can not get Character Tool to work. Has anyone got any ideas on how to get Character Tool up and running? Is there an alternative to Character Tool for viewing Freedom Force meshes?
