Just a little something I wondered about

I think this post answers it best
The link is dead....I'm curious myself...is GoG getting the first game?
The rights to the first game are more complicated than those to the second. The first game went through a standard publisher with other agreements going on here and there. The second game was self published, making the rights relatively simple.
This answers my question about the first game.

I just re-purchased this game from GoG on a whim, even though I have this game as well as the first still.

I bought this to solve the compatibility problems of having older software. It's nice to see that some of the mods can be used still with this version of the game.

I am looking forward to getting back into the game and actually playing it as I never got to play the 3rd Reich much (I can only vaguely recall the first mission) due to lack of time when it came out and just never got around to it.
All mods should be compatible, although you may have to tweak any shortcuts those mods use as the install path is different.

Mod tools will probably not work without some trickery. You don't need those to play the mods, though, just make or alter them.

accually, Both FF1 & 2, in their original disk versions have zero problems running on vista 64..

it really is to bad that FF1 isnt here though, its such a wonderfull game. In many ways better than FF2 if ya ask me. It has more origin stories which are great, and just the vast array of characters is better. the combat is a bit easier in FF2, but once you figure out the quirkyness of the first, in many ways its better.

Besides, FF1 has sea Erchant, with out a dought the coolest character in the game. take her, liberty lad, ant, and then mentor... Its like the teenage muntants with prof X leading the way..

best part is you can play the game 20 times and never use the same team set up twice.. and using the exp power up containers, it even makes different characters vastly different as you power them up.
Actually, all the origin stories are in the second game as well, they just don't play automatically, but you can play them from any character's info screen.

Also all character from the first game are in the second, including Sea Urchin, some of them are just optional.
Still, if they were to finally get the first one, I'd definitely buy them both on GOG.com ... until then i have to rely on the copy I bought on ( ALAS) steam... :(
Yeah I don't know why first one is not here :S
Gamersgate has the original freedom force and it is apparently DRM free. Makes no sense as to why GOG does not have it here.

Again, the two games have two different publishers, meaning GoG, and the other's mentioned, must negotiate the rights to publish separately. EA publishes the first game. I am pretty sure GoG does not carry EA games. FFvTTR is owned by the founder of the developer. He can make deals with anyone he wants to.

EA has published games on GoG (Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Lands of Lore, Legend of Kyrandia, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri etc)

Biggest sticking point could be that Crave Entertainment was involved in the original game as well and they no longer exist. While it's obviously possible to navigate the rights (as Gamersgate and Steam have), it does take time.

I'd never played either game before, but looking at the description for Freedom Force vs The Third Reich here, I picked up the original at a local thrift store for $2 in excellent condition (no scratches on the disc, no creases in the manual, box in decent shape). Happily, the game works on Windows 7 x64 (albeit with a little tweaking and a patch). So far, I'm loving the game. I came back here the same evening and picked up the sequel, heh.

Currently, I'm on Minute Man's second mission in the first game. Trying to knock out the thugs without tripping the alarms. Not an easy feat, to say the least. I do know where the main objective is at, it's the pesky sub-objectives that are giving me fits. The game engine strongly reminds me of Neverwinter Nights 2 and I love the comic book aesthetics. The voice acting is perfectly reminiscent of super hero cartoons from the 1960s and 1970s that I grew up with.

Both games are published DRM-Free on Gamersgate buy Focus Home Interactive - same publisher as part 2 here. /shrug

The publisher for both parts on Steam is listed as 2k Games.

I am not sure why FHI doesn't have both parts here, just like they do on GG.
