I just finished playing Pool of Radiance on my Mac thanks to GoG! It was a blast from the past as it brought back fond old memories of first playing it when it first came out and saying up all night with my friends as we took turns at the keyboard.

Now I want to play Curse of the Azure Bonds and want to transfer some of my characters over from PoR.

I did a lot of Googling and everything I found was for the Windows version. I'm not a DosBox or Boxer expert by any means so I had a hard time figuring it out. But, finally with enough bits of information via Google, I figured it out and thought I'd share my findings with everyone.

So, here are the steps I took in order to transfer my Pool of Radiance characters to Curse of the Azure Bonds on Mac:

1. First, close Curse of the Azure Bonds if you have it running.

2. In PoR, go to the training hall and remove all the characters from your party that you want to transfer.

3. Exit PoR - you don't have to save the game

4. In Finder, go to your Library folder under your home folder. This may be tricky as by default, the Library folder is hidden. So, in Finder, go to your Home folder and then select the Go menu (in Finder) and select "Go to Folder...". A small window will open and in this window enter "Library" (without the quotes).

5. In Finder, now go into the "Application Support" folder, then the "Boxer" folder, then the "Gamebox States" folder, and then the "com.gog.pool-of-radiance" folder.

6. You should now see an item named "Current.boxerstate" - right-click on this item and select "Show Package Contents" from the popup menu.

7. Now, open the "C.harddisk" folder and then the "POOLRAD" folder.

8. Ok, this is it. In the POOLRAD folder you should be able to find your character files. After testing, I've determined the only files you need are the ones with your character name ending in ".CHA". So, for instance, if your character's name was "MERLIN", you would need the file named "MERLIN.CHA".

9. So, now open another Finder window and do the same as above to navigate to the following folder:

~/Library/Application Support/Boxer/Gamebox States/com.gog.curse-of-the-azure-bonds/Current.boxerstate/C.harddisk/SAVE

10. Simply copy the .CHA files for the characters you want to transfer to this "SAVE" folder for Curse.

11. That should be it, now fire up Curse and select the "Add Character to Party" option, select that it is from "POOL" and you should see your characters available for importing.

Hi guys...totally late to this party and can't seem to find any of these folders. The Boxer folder is nowhere to be found in the app support. There is nothing in the app support for the games at all it seems. I can only show package contents on the game itself and that does not contain anything useful. Please help. ;)

Finding these games again has totally rocked my world - haha!

I'm trying to play through the games with my party from the past (re made again in Pool Of Radiance) and am struggling to transfer characters from one game to the next.

I have read the post related to this, as well as the GOG troubleshoot for MAC games. I am using a MacBook Pro to play and downloaded the game file .dmg's and they play perfectly.

Both solutions reference finding the "Gamebox States" folder within Application Support folder for the game(s) and it doesn't seem to exist.

I have tried using terminal and finder but no luck. Am I missing something really obvious or do I need to have other software installed first.

Any help would be amazing. Can't wait to kick ass with my level 6-8 party in Curse (my other party got decimated fighting the Beholder Corps outside of Daggerfalls and only survived with the dwarf Galbagg the wearer of the Girdle of the Dwarves (which I remember discovering the first time round and it blew me away in the same way - best item in the game if you have a dwarf in the party.)

Assuming you bought the games on GOG then they are already using Boxer Standalone. Most likely thing you are missing is there are more than one Library folder. You want the one in your home folder, ~/Library (which is hidden by default), not the system-wide one.
Also, don't quote a massive wall of text. Edit it before sending.

Thank you from 2018! The import function from the GoG version choked, and I had many hours playing the abandonware version... did not want to start over, your post allowed me to find where to copy my data files.

The Library folder is in your USERS folder, but it is HIDDEN by default.

Open up your home folder, click on the "View > Show View Options" menu item and turn on the "Show Library Folder" item (It's a checkbox at the bottom).

Basically there are 2 confusing issues for us Mac Folks:

Issue 1: The root of the problem is that the users Library Folder is hidden in modern OS X versions by default.

Issue 2: It doesn't help that Boxer installs to the All Users Applications folder by default, and stores the user specific data in the Users folder. In hindsight, makes sense to do it that way, but is awfully confusing.

PoR data files are in: /Users/userNameGoesHere/Library/Application Support/Boxer/Gamebox States/com.gog.pool-of-radiance/Current.boxerstate/C.harddisk/POOLRAD

Dont waste yer time in the training hall, just COPY the entire contents of your POOLRAD folder into your $/CURSE/SAVE folder, you'll have a version of each toon for every Save you have. Pick the ones you want, first opportunity go and save in Curse, and Delete all the files from inside your $/CURSE/SAVE that were not created in the last 10 seconds :p

Hi, I've got some PoR characters on my MacBook Air running Mojave. I've been able to open the Library in my Home folder, no problem, but there is no "Boxer" folder. Searches for "Boxer" and for the file names mentioned in the various instructions on this thread don't turn up anything, either. I just can't tell where PoR saves things on this computer.

If anyone can help me out, I'd be grateful!

GOG has switched many of the games away from Boxer now (because the standalone version of Boxer GOG used was not 64-bit compatible). GOG is now using DOSBox instead. So unless you are using an old version of the game you downloaded many years ago (or if you downloaded the full version of Boxer yourself and are using it it run the game) then it is not using Boxer. To find the save game files in the DOSBox version, first find the Pool of Radiance app, right-click and choose 'Show Package Contents' then navigate to where DOSBox stores the game save files in: /Contents/Resources/game/POOLRAD
