In Curse I found If I had a female thief i would have gotten some extra missions ect but i didn't even take a thief

I currently have a
human palidan
human fighter
human cleric
elf mage level 11 (low hp he got knocked out in the first game)
half elf fighter/mage
half elf cleric/fighter/mage

Any suggestions ?
I also noticed the 2 chars i brought from the first game kept low hp's compared to the ones from cursed.

My suggestion is to retire all your non-human characters and create new ones, who should all be humans. You will want a human mage in order to get access to higher level spells, for example.

Also, from what I understand, SotSB has a lot of giants later in the game, so taking a ranger along might be a good idea.

There's also the possibility of dual-classing, which allows you to get some fighter abilities (including HP, equipment options, and the extra half attack) while still being able to easily reach high levels in the second class.

Edit: The reason to retire your non-human characters is level limits. Your elf mage, for example, can't level up anymore and therefore will never get access to higher level spells like Delayed Blast Fireball.

I should have probably made a new elf mage or all new chars in hindsite and looked around theg game more I pretty much rushed zhentil and yulash then beat the game I think i found a cave which i never finished as well .

Thanks for the fast reply I think I'll take your advice and make a new human mage

And I will make two dual class should i pick them as dual class in char creation or start with one and switch over in game in the hall?

I don't think you can pick dual class at character creation. Remember that multi-class (only available to non-humans) and dual-class (only available to humans) are different mechanics.

Remember that dual class mages can't cast spells wearing armor unless they are ranger/mages.

tempted to hold out for level 13 but I think I'll ditch my thief i just made turn my fighter into a thief so he can still max out
And make another new fighter .

Does that make sense if I switch a level 9 fighter to a thief he can still max out his thief class to level 18 right??

Yes, you can. This isn't like the Baldur's Gate series in that respect.

The only thing you missed was climbing up somewhere with your thief but you don't gain anything from it.
I think he means the *female* thief, you actually just need a female character to get the Swanmays quests, which can get you some extra money in Dracandros' tower.
Class specific mechanics are extremely rare in the series. I believe the only games (not counting FRUA mods) that actually demand a specific class functionality (as in hard mechanics requiring a given class, not strategic concerns e.g., surviving Treasures, Dark Queen, or Pools without multiple mages is likely to be a tall order at best) are the following cases:

* One sidequest in Champions of Krynn cannot be completed without a Knight
* One sidequest in Dark Queen of Krynn appears not to be completable without a Thief (there is a door that you encounter and must open, which appears always fails bash and knock attempts, but can be picked)
* One quest in Pool of Radiance has an alternative solution if you have a Thief
* The Challenge dungeon in Pools of Darkness cannot be completed if you do not have at least one of all four primary character types (i.e., you must have a Cleric, a Mage, a Thief, and a warrior-type)
* One sidequest area in Treasures of the Savage Frontier has a Mage-only final reward (the rest of the area can be explored by any composition AFAIK, though)

I cannot recall any other cases.

Nonhumans should be thief multiclasses only. (Single class thief is rather weak, and wastes a lot of XP as you will cap out rather quickly; multiclasses not including thief, as said, hit the level caps.) The most useful are:

* Dwarf Fighter/Thief (can have 18/99 natural STR and 19 CON, also there are a couple of mandatory secret walls in Secret that do not show up in the normal search and can only be detected by a dwarf, otherwise you'll have to work out their locations from a map or by walking into walls till you find them)
* Elf Fighter/Mage/Thief (the magery, combined with the fighter abilities and the thief's ability to advance, is actually quite useful - you won't get the top level nukes, but you will still get nearly all of the buffs, many of them very useful to a front liner)
* Half-Elf Fighter/Mage/Thief (you miss out on 5th level spells, in particular the AC and damage buff spells that are introduced in the next game, but you still get most of the useful buffs; you also can have 18/90 STR vs the elf's 18/75, and half-elves can be resurrected without need of Power Word Reload, unlike elves).

(Sadly for those of you who are little guy fans, the Gnome and Halfling never really prove useful in the FR Gold Box games :()
