I have a dilemma where my party is weighed down by too much money such that they can only move 3 spaces in combat. This is a great disadvantage when my party is fighting in a large area especially to ranged attacks.

Is there some way to store my money elsewhere in a bank or safe so my characters are not restricted in movement during battles? SSI should have included that in the game.My characters have a total of 5586 pieces of platinum & 504 pieces of copper.

There is no bank or storage location. It looks like you've already discovered the way to convert smaller coins to platinum, which helps a bit. You can purchase jewelry from the Jewelry Shop in Phlan (located in the back of one of the General Items shops), this will convert your coins to a more portable form (but at the expense of an item slot).

However, you really don't need to keep all the coins, money is mostly useless in this game (until you purchase Fine Composite Longbows from the Silver Shop for your fighters, if you want to use ranged combat). You still gain the XP from coins even if you don't pick them up after combat.

I just keep about 200pp on each character, and keep all the gems and jewelry to appraise/sell whenever I need extra cash to level up or ID items.

Isn't a vault available in the "Champions of Krynn" game? I do remember if your character happens to be a knight they donate all their wealth to their order of knights.
There is a cheat to create duplicate items. Perhaps you can use it to transfer your money to one character to use as a bank? Saving money isn't necessary, but if you want to go for it.

I just read the instructions. You would need to restart the game to do it that way. Does anyone know if you drop your money i will it be in the same spot when you return? That would be a good way to screw your hired henchmen when they leave.

Why? What are you going to spend the money on?

Something later in the game that costs 10,000 platinum, is a mandatory purchase, and that I don't know about yet because I haven't reached the point in the game that it becomes apparent?

(How can someone, on their first trip through the game, know that there *isn't* such a thing in the game? Remember that for some people it's their first time playing the game.)
I just create a Human Fighter at the training hall, transfer all my excess cash to him, and then remove him from the party. He can hold all my heavy platinum and give it back if I ever need it.

As for the hypothetical 10,000 platinum purchase, most parties cannot even carry that much. But I do understand where you're coming from - you can't know you don't need that excess cash if you're playing the first time through without spoilers.
I remember that the training is pretty expensive, some weapons are expensve as well. But anyway, couldn't be the money be exchanged for gems in this game? Not sure if PoR had it as an option.
