Gwnick: should I remove them from the party in my other game?
Yes. You can add them back afterwords without problem. Make sure you R)emove the character; D)ropping the character will delete that character for good.

I managed to transfer chars I kept a human cleric ,and half elf mage/cleric/fighter and an elf mage (I also brought over a human mage but he's not in the party) I made a paladin a new fighter since my old one died in the last battle in pools of radiance and a human mage/fighter .
I dragged the files from pools of radiance lost all my items only way I could figure out hopefully for the next game a can keep items some how?
DT you seem to be the go to guy around here I plan to try and beat Cursed asap and move on to secrets before march perhaps when it is time you can help me keep the items i find in this game?
Ha, good luck with that. It removes your items too. You didn't get to keep your items until Secret to Pools.

But there is a way around it, though it is so baroque I hate to mention it.

Curse is compatible with Gateway in terms of character files, and Pools with Treasures.

It is thus possible to remove your guys at the end of Curse, take them into Gateway and from there into Treasures, and then back into Pools of Darkness. Of course, then you don't get to play Secret of the Silver Blades, where the only +5 items are.

Hmm got some decent items i'd like to keep but not if it's cheating starting SOS now i guess I skipped hillsfar never heard of it I took 20 tries to kill the boss and find out i can't get anymore xp :S

so going to try and bring over my chars now idk how many i'm going to use? maybe just the cleric and fighter and pali
my elf mage is level 11 i think but hp is 40 what do you reccomend?
Sorry I didn't see this.

I don't know the composition of your party, but:

Demihumans stop being useful past Curse. You can use a fighter/thief, or an elf fighter/mage/thief, but pure elf mages should probably be dropped.

If you don't have one already, you might create a ranger and dual him or her to mage at level 9, as they will then be able to cast spells in armor. Particularly useful in Pools of Darkness if you are planning on the 'grand tour'.
Also, be careful about importing any Fighters or Fighter mixes with Exceptional (the parenthetical number next to the 18) Strength scores.

There is a bug with importing these characters into Curse, where attempting a Strength buff on such a character will malfunction, causing the affected character's base STR score to be changed to the number that was their exceptional strength value (e.g., if they have 18(00) STR, the bug will switch their STR to 100). As AD&D pre-3rd Edition only had ability scores up to 25 (with a tiny few unique exceptions such as Elminster who IIRC has an official INT of 26, though I'm not even quite sure what if any effect that actually has), this results in the engine attempting to read more or less random data (presumably it tries to read beyond the end of the ability score values table and takes whatever data happens to be at that index), most of which data does not have a beneficial effect on the character.

(Mind you, if you're a dtgreene type, it is an option to play Pool with fighters with STR of exactly 18(25) and then intentionally tripping the bug to get super strength - the game does support the full range of ability scores up through 25, even though most of these are not actually obtainable without cheating ...)

I am not certain whether or not the bug persists if you take such a character onward into Secret without subjecting them to any STR altering magic in Curse (this actually shouldn't be too hard to test, since the character could be removed and re-imported to Secret without any need to actually play Curse at all). I have also heard it not to occur to some players, but IME it's happened to every character I've ever tried under the above circumstances (IIRC it even happened on the Commodore 64 where I first played the series, not just on DOS).
