Help for some reason the companion has gone crazy. I have save games in slots A, B, C, and D. But the companion is only detecting the first three slots for some reason and not detecting slot D. Even worse I deleted my fourth character from my party in slot C and D after discovering I had made a fighter.thief when I wanted a fighter/magic user. I created what I wanted and saved. But now the companion keeps searching for the old character rather then the new one and I have no idea how to override it.
Can't get this to work at all with GoG Pool of Radiance at all.

GoG settings are disabled on the check box, despite finding the install location.

GBC seems to want to only load games in slots A or J and wants to load a party that has absolutely nothing to do with the characters I created, I saved my party into slots A, B, and J just to try to get the thing to spot them.

Tried disabling cloud saves, nothing seems to make a difference.

That's because the game installs with two saved games (A, J). The files are located in the "POOLRAD"-folder which is the folder where GBC tries to find the save files.

Even if you disable cloud saves, new save files go to the "cloud_saves"-folder which is located under the "Pool of Radiance"-folder.

You need to copy the files from the cloud folder to the POOLRAD-folder.

If you don't need cloud saves you can try this:
Disable cloud_saves from GOG Galaxy.
In the "Pool of Radiance"-folder there's a file called "dosbox_por_single.conf".
Edit it and remove the line "mount C "..\cloud_saves" -t overlay".
Now the save files should go into the "POOLRAD"-folder and you don't need to copy the save files any longer.

The "GOG settings" button is disabled because at some point they changed the location of the settings tool. You can run it from the Start-menu.

Hi! Great program! Thanks very much for your work on this.

I too am having trouble getting it setup. I disabled Cloud saves, edited the dosbox_por_single.conf and copied over all my saves to the POOLRAD folder.

GBC now sees my save information but I am still unable to select GOG settings in the GBC UI. Not sure what the problem is. Here is the message I get when I use the Search button:

- Trying to solve base address by searching for 1st ID starting at $1000000...
- ERROR: Could not solve base address. 1st ID not found!
Try increasing the latter address range value and click search again.
Incompatible DOSBox / game version might cause this.
Click the READ TEST to see which memory locations can be read, if any.
Click HELP for more info.

Any ideas on what is going? Additionally, what do you running it from the Start-menu? Which start menu are you referring to?

I'm referring to Windows Start-menu. When you for example install Pool of Radiance, shortcuts to the Start-menu will be created. Check for "Pool of Radiance [GOG.com]" and under that "Graphic Mode Setup". This is what the "GOG settings" button in GBC would start but the location has changed and I need to to update GBC at some point to reflect that.

For the search problem: try the READ TEST and read the HELP. Try increasing the search range.

Hey joonashgog! Yes, I actually figured it out shortly after posting up my message but thank you for your swift reply! I found POR settings via the Windows Start-menu and was able to make the needed changes to the screen settings. I followed the rest of the instructions included on the Gold Box Companion website and now this program is working like a charm. I don't know how to play the Gold Box games without it now!

Would love to know if you're still actively supporting development of the Gold Box Companion. It is already a very powerful tool for the Gold Box games but it would be great to see you continue to build on what you've started here. ^_^

I'd like to at least release an update that would work with the changes that GOG has made recently but just haven't found time for that.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve GBC further you can mail me or post ideas here.
I've updated Gold Box Companion to version 2.50.

Changes:

Support for cloud saves folders of the GOG-versions. There is a checkbox to check if you want to use them. If you configure the games with the "Setup GOG" button then it's set on in those games but can be disabled later if wanted. Note that GBC only sees saves from one folder while the game seems to see saves from both cloud folder and normal save folder.

"Setup GOG" button now also configures FRUA.

You no longer set the FRUA folder to a design subfolder but instead set it normally as the other games and then a design is selected from a dropdownlist.

"GOG Settings" button should now work again.

Lots of previously unknown effects identified (thanks to Null Null and others).

Pool of Radiance's "two-handed sword +1, +3 vs undead" effect description corrected.

Monster manuals for all games included in the Resources-folder but can also be launched from GBC's main window or from the homepage.

I just wanted to drop by and say THANK YOU for making this wonderful tool.
Seems that there is a problem with FRUA and latest version of GBC. Whenever i fire up GBC, the characters seem to 'unlearn' all spells (lose whole spellbook). Memorized spells remain but the spellbooks are empty. Seems to happen to both Mages and Clerics. Before firing up GBC, spellbooks work fine.
Sounds great. Where's the source code, so I and/or someone else can port it to Linux? I'm not running dosbox under wine so I can use this. Ah well, it doesn't really matter. I'll just live without it. Just like the All Seeing Eye.
Hey folks, I'm at a loss here. Trying to use GBC 2.60 for the first time with Pools of Radiance and the "Search" button won't light up. I located the game in the GOG folder and can launch it, configure it, etc. but I can't get Search to even enable despite changing the search range.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out -- uncheck the cloud saves folder checkbox. I wish the instructions were more clear on this point.

I like the idea of the GBC. The map and journal logging sounds interesting. My problem is I'm not using the Gold Box Edition. When I run it, I have only the A and J slots available. I noticed there is a dosbox settings button, but it is greyed out. Is there a way to enable it?
