I've uploaded videos showing the character transfer for the whole Pool-of-Radiance-series:

POR -> COTAB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgODb8-qcqk

COTAB -> SOTSB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv13K5VSitI

SOTSB -> POD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwRyMfywQyA

Maybe it is of some use.

Thanks for sharing this. And for people who don't have access to videos, here's my previous text post on the subject:

Hi, if anyone got the Gold Box series recently and has been wondering how to transfer their characters from Pool of Radiance to Curse of the Azure Bonds, here's how to do it:

"To transfer a character file from Pool of Radiance to Hillsfar or Curse of the Azure Bonds you need a 'charname.CHA' file. However, Pool of Radiance does not create files that end with .CHA UNLESS you remove the character from the party in one of the training rooms.

Once you complete the game and are ready to transfer from Pool of Radiance then you should go to the training hall, enter one of the 4 training rooms for fighters, thieves etc and then select the option 'Remove Character From Party' for all characters you intend to transfer. "

THEN: you can go into the Pool of Radiance / POOLRAD directory and look for a file name with your character's name on it that is a .CHA file. Copy this one file, then paste it into the Curse of the Azure Bonds / SAVE directory.

When you launch Curse of the Azure Bonds, you'll have the option to "Add character to party" - then the game will ask: "Add from where? Curse | Pool | Hillsfar | Exit" - select (P) for Pool of Radiance. You will then see your character from Pool of Radiance that you can add.

And you're all set!

That's exactly what I forgot to mention! Thanks for pointing that out!
Hello people

I am trying to transfer my POR Characters to Curse. I followed the video as best I can. Copied my Cha files over to Curse folder.

I did all of this below.

"To transfer a character file from Pool of Radiance to Hillsfar or Curse of the Azure Bonds you need a 'charname.CHA' file. However, Pool of Radiance does not create files that end with .CHA UNLESS you remove the character from the party in one of the training rooms.

What am I missing?

I have a PC with windows 10.

Well, I got 5 of my characters. Missing one and cant figure it out. Seems like the files are there.

I have another issue. I can transfer characters from Pool to Hillsfar, but can't seem to figure out how to transfer from Hillsfar to Curse. I copied and saved the Character files in Curse Save folder, but still can't get the characters in Curse. Any ideas?

You also copied the .HIL files to CotAB's save folder?
All this is great stuff, but I have a Mac. I can't even find the files like dosbox or gamebox. Is there anyway to move my characters from Pools to Azure? I am running High Sierra.

Thanks!

Hey,
Go check out the How to Transfer Characters from EoB to EoB II thread, the process is very similiar.

Basically there are 2 confusing issues for us Mac Folks:

Edit: The root of the problem is that the users Library Folder is hidden in modern OS X versions by default.

Edit2: It doesn't help that Boxer installs to the All Users Applications folder by default, and stores the user specific data in the Users folder. In hindsight, makes sense to do it that way, but is awfully confusing.

PoR data files are in: /Users/userNameGoesHere/Library/Application Support/Boxer/Gamebox States/com.gog.pool-of-radiance/Current.boxerstate/C.harddisk/POOLRAD

Be advised that like I mentioned above, the users Library Folder is hidden by default.

*Swiped from MacRumors thread: It's not under Finder preferences, you need to open up your home folder, click on the "View > Show View Options" menu item and turn on the "Show Library Folder" item.*

Dont waste yer time in the training hall, just COPY the entire contents of your POOLRAD folder into your $/CURSE/SAVE folder, you'll have a version of each toon for every Save you have. Pick the ones you want, first opportunity go and save in Curse, and Delete all the files from inside your $/CURSE/SAVE that were not created in the last 10 seconds :p

Thanks ALL of you guys for your help.

I finally found the library and added the view. Got as far as /application support/boxer/gamebox states/com.gog.pool-of-radiance/current.boxerstate.

At that step, my computer has "current.boxerstate" as a program. It is not a file folder. There isn't anything below it and in fact it is the only file in the folder com.gog.pool-of-radiance. So, what have I done wrong?

right click (or hold down control and then click) on "current.boxerstate" and choose the option "Show Package Contents"

I got as far as the Application Support folder, but can't find "Boxer" - is there an updated name/folder?

Yes, GOG doesn't use Boxer for their mac installers anymore because Boxer Standalone isn't 64-bit compatible, they have changed all the installers to DOSBox.

Assuming you are NOT using GOG Galaxy:
You can now find the save files inside each game app itself (right-click and select Open on the game app). For example:
Pool of Radiance/Contents/Resources/game/POOLRAD/
Curse of the Azure Bonds/Contents/Resources/game/SAVE/
etc.

(If you're using GOG Galaxy, I don't know exactly where the saves are, I think it's a cloudsave directory inside the Galaxy folder or something like that).
