I can't seem to get the ASE automapper to work with the gog version of EOB. The search window says it can't find dos box 74. I have seen the other threads in this forum on this topic, but to be honest I am not quite understanding what I am supposed to do. Can someone please help me with this, and give some clear simple directions?

Thank you in advance....

1. Start ASE and configure it (EoB 1 or EoB 2, path to the game folder).
2. Start the game.
3. If not already in window mode, switch to window mode with Alt+Enter.
4. If not already running, start ASE.
5. In ASE, click on "Start search"
6. ASE should attach itself to one side of the game window, displaying the current map.

Thanks! that worked. Problem was the other instrurtions were either really convoluted or in "Computerese"/
It lists the character names from my game and then the following error:
"- Searching memory for character names.
- Characters not found in memory! Adjust the search range and try again"

The search range is listed as $1000000 and $F000000. Anything I should be altering?

What Windows-version are you using?
Are you using the latest version of ASE?
Did you load a saved game in the game before clicking Search in ASE?

If you can't get it to work, mail me with your save file. The email address can be found in the ASE Help-file.
Using Windows 7, I believe I'm using the latest version of ASE as I downloaded it the other day and it's listed as 0.99. I have the game started and loaded (I'm able to use Start GOG game through ASE and it is connected to the game folder) and hitting start search shows me my party's names. It states it is trying to load them and then

- Searching memory for character names.
- Characters not found in memory! Adjust the search range and try again.

I'm sure I've probably done something wrong but I'm not sure what or where. ASE is kept in a folder named ASE within the EOB's directory - if it should be located elsewhere that might be it. Oh, and its not in Program Files either but nor is it on my C:/ Drive if that is relevant. It definitely seems to find the save game, it just seems to have a hard time searching for the memory of them.

Just to be sure:
Did you load a saved game in EOB before hitting Search in ASE?

The folders shouldn't matter.

If you send me the save file, I could take a look.
Yeah, I loaded up a game beforehand. If I'm at the main menu, it looks like it gives me the same message though. How do I send you the file?

The email address is mentioned in the beginning of the ASE Help-file (click the Help-button in ASE to access it, *.*@pp.inet.fi).

Attach the files EOBDATA.SAV and LEVELS.TMP from you EOB-folder to the mail.
Oh, right, sorry!
Sent them now. It worked, for a moment; I tried swapping characters around and walking around and it did seem to create a window! This didn't last for long though - I wanted to see if it was a case of walking around that fixed it and now I'm getting an error again saying that it couldn't find them in the previous address or at all.

Edit: Currently its working but I don't know why. Sometimes it works right and sometimes it doesn't and I'm not quite sure what I'm doing differently when it does.

Hello, please excuse my english, i am from germany and i'm still learning ...

I have tried the ASE today and i cannot get it to work right. The window of the map is emtpy. I can start ASE and it finds the dosbox window, and it shows all characters in the character editor - but the map is always empty, it's just a clear yellow box without anything in it. I have tried win 10 and win 7, both 64bit. Am i doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Marko

Sorry, this comes late but...
Are you using the german version (1.4?) of the game? ASE is meant to be used with the GOG 1.7 english version.

ok, I have the same problem, thanks for telling it doesn't work with the german version. Is there any workaround for this known to anyone yet?
I can't get ASE or ASE3 to work at all. I've tried fresh installs from GOG, versions from other sites, version 0.99 and 0.50, fresh installs of DOSBox 0.74 and 0.73 vanilla, X and Daum, searching from $0000000 to $FFFFFFF, my own brand new saves and even the quickstart saves that come with the games and nothing seems to work for any of them.

They find the saves fine. They find the DOSBox window fine. But they always tell me that the characters aren't found in memory. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Running Windows 10 x64 now, but I remember playing through the first two games a few years ago on an older machine with Windows 7 and ASE 0.50 with no problems. I'm at a loss here.

Try increasing the end search value to something like $20000000 or higher.
