What level is the party at when importing from EoB 1 to EoB 2? Is it a set level or a cap, or the exact levels your party is at the end of EoB 1?

Exact levels. Fun part is that you can transfer even completely new level 1 party to Eob2. It is done by just copying savegame -file to eob2 directory, so party transfer can be done at any time during Eob1. There is a challenge: can you beat Eob2 with level 1 starting party? Never tried that myself.

Nice, i'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

That's nice idea. I'm going to try that. You don't get a level 1 party in EOB, though. Single class characters start at level 3 in EOB.

EDIT: So far I've made it past the skeleton warriors and am in the area, where you cannot rest. My party is level 6 now. Funny thing: When I recruited Calandra, she was twice as experienced as all of my characters together. But she still needed rescuing...

I think the next critical moment will be the wall of pain.

I hope that hold person works on medusas as well, because my mage probably won't be experienced enough to cast 4 hold monster spells and I did't feel like resurrecting Saan-Raal.

I cant transfer my characters from eob2 to eob3. I use character import option and it finds my characters but every time I try to play game and summon party from eob2 it says I have to run character transfer file. Can anybody help me out.

Started Eob with default party and finished EOB, all characters levels 7 to 8. Transferred party over, loaded party, all was fine minus some items that were too powerful. Played until I realized I actually needed the thief.

Everything I have done so far, including uninstalling eob2 and reinstalling it has still failed to let me transfer my Eob party over like before.

I can load the old EOB game just before I kill the actual EOB. I've tried both, killing him again (game just ends) and simply resaving the EOB file.

Copy it back over be damned. It loads my party at level 3 with all basic gear as if I'm restarting eob II with default eob party I started out before I leveled them. All my gear, levels, etc fail to load. It loaded the party with all the gear and levels intact before, but I cannot seem to do it again since restarting my game (due to actually needing to keep the thief)

What is wrong? What am I missing here?

I go into the EOB folder (after checking that yes, the eobdata.sav is in fact currently as was saved (level 7-8), exit out of game, copy that eobdata.sav over to the EOB II folder (even putting a copy in the cloud folder) but when I go to import the eob party, they are the basic party again.

Again, it worked at first, but over & over, it fails to work as it did in the beginning...

It's just not working. It's as if it will 'no longer' let me import my leveled (7-8) eob party into eob II. It just keeps loading the eob party as if it was level 2-3. It worked before but not now. It has to be reading the file from somewhere else in that folder. I load up eob1 party of levels 7-8 and have tried both resaving and completing the game. Exiting out, transfer the eobdata.sav, over and over again, the characters from eob load up in eobII as low level.

Again, at the start, it did load them as level 7-8, but since re-starting it (let the thief not join; I need the thief for initial locked doors) it has not loaded the transferred leveled characters

Any input would be helpful, thanks.

I know this is solved but there is something amiss here for me:

Started Eob with default party and finished EOB, all characters levels 7 to 8. Transferred party over, loaded party, all was fine minus some items that were too powerful. Played until I realized I actually needed the thief.

Everything I have done so far, including uninstalling eob2 and reinstalling it has still failed to let me transfer my Eob party over like before.

I can load the old EOB game just before I kill the actual Beholder. I've tried both, killing him again (game just ends) and simply re-saving the EOB file (original default party, but leveled of course, 4 plus 2 dwarfs) and when I go into the EOB folder, copy eobdata.sav, paste it into eobII folder, fire up the game, go to import eob party, the party is the default party but as it was at the start of the game (2-3 level) with default gear.

It loaded the party with all the gear and levels intact before, but I cannot seem to do it again since restarting my game (due to actually needing to keep the thief) - does it create another file in eob II folder that I have to removed? I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but the problem persists.

I discovered that all I had to do was just go back to his cell; he doesn't even leave his cell after you free him. Walked in and he again asked to join me.

Unable to 'solve' my problem I decided I'd just bite the bullet on the 'saved' game of not letting Insal join my group to open those 3 'locked' doors and, instead, pulled over my back up files, loaded up the 'very first' and only successful 'transfer' of my 'leveled' eob party to eob II (no trap-monkey).

Exploring everywhere up there (except the three locked doors I couldn't pick) I eventually went back down and rushing, stumbled back into Insal's 'already' open door, low and behold it appeared that he was 'still there'!!

Earlier I let him go, refused his help then saved the game!

Humored & thankful, it seems the developers (before or after) seems to have taken my 'exact' situation into consideration (unless he always did stick around) for apparently, as it would seem, even if you don't let Insal join your party, he 'doesn't actually even leave the dungeon!

Insal apparently he just remains freely in his open cell hanging out pouting & moping about.

... eobdata.sav not working problem still makes no sense, but I thought I'd come back here and put this down so that if anyone came along that cared enough to answer would know was able to just carry on with no problems and unless I play the game again I won't be bothering to trouble shoot.

If some dev out there does want to work and fixing the problem for the sake of cataloging it, I am willing to back up my save games and work on it with them for someone else's sake later on down the road, but other than that (this is marked solved anyhow) my issue can be forgotten about, left or deleted, it's all good, I was able to 'nab' Insal and open those doors with my 'leveled party' import after all.

... and if you actually read all these, I sincerely thank you for your time.
Just adding this info for anyone else who gets stuck on this:

You have TWO eye of the beholder save files. There's a GOG cloud save one that likely has your real save data on it.

I've spent the past half hour copying over the default save file Eye of the Beholder creates which has level 3 garbage characters, wondering where my save from the end of the game went.

There is a folder called cloud_saves, it was in there.
