There is a bug that makes the two keys not register a key press. It's driving me insane. Sometimes it works well a whole play session... MOST of the time either key is only registering every 2nd/3rd/4th press. Sometimes both do only register partly.

Is there any fix? It seems to be a bug in the actual game!

For the records, i have the same problem here with EOB2, that the num pad 9 key wont work always reliable and sometimes i need 2-3 hits for turning right.

The workaround i found who worked for me was to turn off Num lock before starting the game. Then it looks like it's working every time.
To both of you, it might help (depending on your PC) to turn up the cycles of Dos-box (IIRC EOB2 is run in it, or?)

Num lock is the answer. Even in EOB2's installation guide it says that you should make sure that Num lock is turned off on your keypad.

ha ha ha, 30 years later found this 4 year old post and get the answer, I Was mad about the game for 30 years. even I did write a physical postal letter to SSI never get answer, but I live on Colombia and 30 years ago the comunication was other thing :D Thanks a lot, I will try to finish the game now. :-P
Better late than never. :)
This needs to be stickied or put somewhere far more prominent. This was driving me insane too and I was liking 2 way more than 1.

I'll have to revisit this game later now.
I think I found a solution that should work for EVERYONE.

DON'T USE THE NUMPAD.

Use the arrow keys, PageUp and Home (the ones above arrow keys).

Use AutoHotKey to rebind the keys.

You don't even need to understand how AHK works. Just install it and double click the script I made: You can edit it with any text editor. You can change the assignments to your liking, it's very self explanatory.

If you want to use the normal keyboard bindings for a while, just right click the tray icon -> "suspend hotkeys".
Thanks. Same problem. Turning off the Num Lock before running the game did the trick. Would have been infuriating to keep playing the game like that. Definitely didn't have this problem with EOB1.

[eiwa.akai's thing might work too; I didn't try. Toggling Num Lock seemed easier.]
Just adding my thanks to this post. didn't think it could be as simple as toggling numlock

it even works in game.

Dang. And now I think about it, I might even remember this from the game I played when it was first out in the 90s
