I'd like to know whether GOG removed this bug in Pools of Darkness:
The Ring of Electrical Immunity stops working unless it's unequipped and re-equipped in every battle.

Thanks.

I just went in and cast Lightning Bolt on my character with the ring equipped and it seemed to work. However, I'm still not sure if it works on dragon breath (relevant to the famous last battle).

It doesn't. Or maybe it only works by unequipping and re-equipping.

Ring of Electrical Immunity certainly doesn't work as intended. My character wearing one is freely blasted with Lightning Bolts from mages. I can't recollect for sure how it did, or didn't, work against blue dragon breath and blue minion lightning.
If it's any consolation it works in the Amiga version. The only thing I really remember from the final battles of the Amiga version was that that Ring sure was handy...

True, on the Amiga the ring worked fine, except against the blue minions' lightning damage shields.

That ring, when working, actually makes a huge difference, both in the final fight, but also in Dave's challenge.
The fact that there is this difference between versions brings up an interesting question:

How similar are the save file formats between the versions?

Could one simply copy the save data from one version to the other and have it work? Or would some conversion (i. e. little to big endian) be needed? Or are the formats completely different?
I don't know, but since you like to powergame, you *can* use saved characters from Pools of Darkness in Treasures of the Savage Frontier.

(Gateway and Curse work the same way)

I know you will enjoy tossing a Delayed Blast Fireball on Geildarr's 'sea of men and monsters'. Have fun!

That's because the "lightning" damage shields aren't lightning; it's effectively a version of (and uses the same internal special effect as) the Fire Shield spell, and the melee-retaliatory part of Fire Shield always deals raw Magic damage rather than any particular element.
